I know of some going in in Essex, roll of the dice but the soils warm and plenty of moisture after rain yesterday with more forecast for tomorrow.

I was putting in cover crops yesterday and as I finished a field of cover I immediately thought should I go back to the yard and chuck some rape in and carry on.
I didnt have any rape this year but have loads left in an ibc from last year. The stubbles will be cultivated in due course anyway so may as well chuck some seed on and see what happens.
Conditions are perfect but a fortnight early.

next door neighbour starting this week , just trying to get it up and away from the beetles
Neighbours drilled some on Thursday My volunteers are full of csfb holes and some plants disappearing already Only combined on Thursday so plenty of the little beggars about already

It just gets bigger with more beetles in it... they have longer to find it, it will look great until April.
did 100 acs on thursday after WW. mixed with fenugreek, Berseem and Buckwheat. No more. light land. quite expect to redrill it with peas in the spring.

Volunteer OSR is untouched by CSFB here..

Neighbour has drilled some trials , had a look this evening coming well after half inch yesterday but plenty of shot holes , got ground ready but don't know if I'm brave enough
You mentioned this in another thread & the lifecycle seems to be that the most prevalent exposure is May-June (another period also occurring later in the autumn, so all OSR will be exposed to this risk period). Will 2-4 weeks really make a difference in exposure to this risk? (Mid July-Mid August). We have some just coming through (mix of land destined, hopefully, for the A303 widening project, and some that we have just redrained)......Both would have had a cover planted anyway, and had FSS in stock, so stuffed it in. If there is a notable presence of CSFB adults between now and October, I will probably assume that it will therefore be savaged by larvae, so a CC pre-winter wheat it shall be. If no notable level in that time, it will be kept and the die rolled. What would you recommend as an equivalent metric for Root Fly? I’ve absolutely no experience with it! Stuff all you can do about root fly. Maybe inter row hoe? Either way, this early if it goes to sh!t with fss there's time to redrill or get a cereal in.
