Only after signing her praises and she goes and breaks out, down the lane, onto the main road across the bridge to the picnic area. Isn't that just sods law, good job the power harrow broke down and I saw her when I was walking home

@Jerry back on page 1 you said your daughter had her place at Harper in mind at 11, has she made it or changed her mind?

God that seems a long time ago now. She is coming up 19 at the end of the year!

She was due to go to Uni last September but deferred a year due to Covid and not being able to get the real uni experiance.

Over the years her real interest in media production came to the for and she has a place at Brighton Uni to do that rather than Harper.

Im not upset in the slightest about it as we have talked lots about things and she is adamant she will be back home or near home when kids are on the horizon. She wants them to grow up around the farm. She has also said that she would like to help run the farm at some point to allow me to semi-retire.....fingers crossed!!

She has been working in the local market 2 or 3 days a week helping to run the sheep side of things and working with me 1 day a week on farm. She has enjoyed both immensely and I know the auctioneers will miss her and have said a job is always there for her when not at uni.

That’s a good approach, keeping options open, she must have been taught well!

Thanks, I wont put pressure on either of my kids, have always said do what youo enjoy as if you enjoy it you tend to be good at it as well.

I also want them to see the world away from farming.

I did much the same when I left uni with my degree, ended up working in ag but in Kenya and then the USA for a few years before coming back to the UK to work for Cargill and then Unigate. Has fate would have it that led to me working in the City for a good few years before I got fed up with the stress and came back to take the farm on so Mum and Dad could retire.

It has worked well for me, I have various skill sets unrelated to farming directly but that have helped me build the farm business and increase diversification to make the farm more resilient and profitable. Its taken a few years to correct 20 years of under investment, whilst Dad was effectively semi retired, but starting to get there now.

Coming from the nearest shop with one of my boys, we saw a van and he said it's the vet, I corrected him, telling him it was the AI man. Short pause... then he asked if only cows had AI; I said lots of animals could have AI, including humans, a shorter pause... then: 'UGH! You mean they put their hands up a girl's bottom?!'

I had to pull over for a couple of minutes because I was laughing so hard it just wasn't safe to drive; even then I couldn't bring myself to say more than 'no, it's done a bit differently for them'. Innocence... :ROFLMAO:
