What is everyone hearing about the Inglis demise... usually plenty of rumour and conjecture when this happens. The press reports makes it look like a managed withdrawal, but I am not so sure....

How much money is involved?
Are many farmers owed money?
Which other merchants are involved?
Any supply industry impacted?
Reasons for the demise?
Etc etc

Why are you so concerned?

So much people only on here for gossip.

Ask on Facebook.

Dare I say that it is far more interesting than another thread moaning about the malting barley industry in Scotland...

I am interested because there is obviously no hard facts yet (although they will all subsequently be known), but bits of info usually get out and circulate. I would assume knowing the potential impact is of interest to those on the forum including myself.

It would be useful to learn, so we can adapt our businesses.

I have supplied them in the past, but due to other factors not this year.

Like you it’s made me wonder about credit insurance. If a company which seems sound and every press report I have read is positive can go bust maybe we should be more concerned. Spreading risk by using different customers is easier said than done.

Why do you trade 4-500,000 tons of cereals per year also?

Personally I can't see what I can learn from there demise and what I would learn from finding out who they are owe money to and how much.

Are you involved in grain trading industry?

Seems to be only threads you ever comment on.

Why anyone would sell their produce to anything other than a blue chip company is beyond me? Companies such as Viterra (Glencore), Frontier, Saxon (Graincorp) & ADM for instance.

Using OSR as an example, an extra £1 per tonne equates to £29 per lorry load. However each lorry load is worth about £14500 today including oil bonuses!

So many risking huge sums of money and potentially their farm and family's livelihood for £29 gain! So about half a tank of petrol! Madness
Ironically I believe the opposite. There is far too much concentration of the market in the hands of too few players, that is a far greater threat to the sustainability of our businesses than loosing a load of grain and besides, no business is ever too big to fail!

This whole forum to me is about sharing information and learning, maybe iv got it wrong, sounds like you're taking it personally.
Yes your right, I just don't like gossip and speculation. The truth will come out in the fullness of time.

I am a bit annoyed about some of the rumours that were being spread round the countryside by other merchants the day before the demise of Inglis became official. Guess that says more about the individuals involved than the company's they represent.

As for the forum being about sharing information and learning the individual asking all the questions above hasn't contributed anything to the forum apart from threads on companies going bust. Maybe that's there specialist subject though.

Not true.... Yes I am interested in the grain trade because of my job but still not sure why that is a problem to anyone?

I do not know any facts around Inglis, hence asking if anyone had any information. Of course that information may not be fact in the fullness of time but I personally am interested.... it's not everyday a major grain merchant goes into administration (thankfully)!!

I can respect your opinion that it maybe unhelpful to speculate (although I can't see any harm as long as everyone is aware it is only speculation) so will leave it there.
