First time alloy welding

Impressive result. I've got the same R-tech and have been fancying a go at ally, don't mind buying the spool gun but it's the extra cost of a cylinder of pure argon I thought you were supposed to need - did you use pure or the normal 5% CO2 stuff used for steel.?
Got a 10litre pure argon on a £70 deposit only so it might last years

Here's a reality check, found the practice welds in order from first. Remember, never even held a mig torch before, mind. IMG_20210522_094823111.jpgIMG_20210522_094828856.jpgIMG_20210522_094833580.jpgIMG_20210522_094837521.jpgIMG_20210522_094938109.jpg
And my son's first ever weld of any kindIMG_20210522_095009525.jpg

I'll bring it down to earth with photos of the first practice welds if I didn't throw the piece too far. Got it spot on for 3mm treadplate now but by all accounts, same settings for thinner stuff will blow through and for thicker,it will mound up. Might quit while I'm ahead
It's quite tricky to get the puddle right without the familiar orange glow to show where the heat is. Tidy job (y)

I have never used a mig but wanted one for a while. My son designed a quad box for his gcse and after months of project work the teacher said it can't be made in school because they don't have the kit🤬. Ordered an rtech 180 inverter with a spool gun last Wednesday afternoon, arrived 9am Thursday. Played on some scrap to get settings close and then first corner weld.
