TexX ewes - which Tup to use?

1 or 2 of the Suffolk lambs showed signs of getting a little dirty yesterday so gathered them into the pens this afternoon for a shot of white wormer and a Multi-vit drench. Haven't been near a lamb since they were born so I was looking forward to handling them as they looked good running about

Despite this spring being shyte and not much grass about, I am very pleased how they're doing and they were a bit bigger up close than I had expected!

Looking good! Did you put any on the scales?

No, I maybe should have weighed that big bugger in the 3rd pic!

Pretty warm here compared to the last week or 2, if it stays like this from now on I'll be fetching this group in end of next week to dagg the ewes and spray the lambs so they'll get a quick weigh then

Wormed and multivit dosed 1 of the inbye mobs of Texel twins lambs this afternoon. Roughly the half of them

Some of the older ewes are quite thin. So gave the worst ones a multivit dose too as I went by them. Very pleased with the lambs though, they're solid and seem to be doing well

The hill singles were looking really bad a few weeks back - I've never seen the hill so bare before. I had opened up the hill field (where they wintered after scanning) for them - that ground is usually kept in reserve if I need to shift twins up to rest the inbye fields... Noticed the last 2 mornings one or 2 of the lambs looking a touch dirty so fetched them over and dosed them all, too

The ewes have taken a good lift since getting onto better grass, and I'm taken back just how well the lambs are doing! The Chev's are looking really smart

Get the other half of the Texel twins in tomorrow and that's all the lambs had a squirt 👍 just have to wait for clipping after that...

Thanks.

Nah can see it on the ewes - fleeces are poor which is always a sign. They're working hard for sure. Actually surprised they are dropping their bellies now, but could be a lot not getting clipped til late on

Big lambs and wee ewes is the dream 🤣

It's been a real scunner. Inbye grass still hasn't caught up but if this heat comes next week it should help. Silage fields are all shut off and are a good 2-3 weeks behind where they'd normally be

We're usually finished feeding the cattle but they're still on quite a bit of silage

Other half of the Texel twins in and done today. These ewes appear to be doing better, they might actually clip! Lambs are looking real good in this mob

Noticed this morning the twins which I gave the cocci dose to 3 weeks ago, a few lambs have gone dirty. Just around the tail, not the Cocci scour where they get it down their legs.
I did worm them at that time as NADIS had us at Amber for Nemo - but it was snowing as I was doing them and felt like I was wasting my time, but they were in anyway (I do much prefer to dose for Nemo and cocci at the same time due to how the 2 parasites work off each other!). So I've gathered them and walked them over tonight to where the yard is set up, so that's tomorrows job. Been beautiful weather but I've just seen tomorrow is to be wet 🤦🏻‍♂️

Just done a faecal egg count tonight. Nemo eggs have gone from zero last Wednesday to 450epg tonight, so that's tomorrow's job sorted and will probably ovivac them when they're in.

I did wonder whether you did any. Quite surprised you don’t. I use the vet mainly because you get advice with the result and I don’t need to do that many but if your putting a kit together

(would of saved you the first wormer this year)

That’s probably fairly sensible. If you find nemo eggs in a sample it’s a bit late anyway as the damage has been done.
Nadis do a good nemo forecast which takes account of the weather conditions.
By the time there are nematodirus eggs in the faeces, the lambs should have been dosed about two weeks earlier.
Dosing the lambs today, with Nemo eggs in their dung, and they're looking well I would say. A fortnight ago I very much doubt there would be worms in their gut to kill. A week ago, possibly, but I'm quite happy with my decision to dose today.
