Possibly not the right thread to post this in @Janet Hughes Defra but it seems the RPA at least haven't had the memo about building farmer trust yet:
LR is a hilarious concept... they can't even get basic SFI right and only the quango's with land will get LR funding... SFI clashes with LNR options... 3 cheers for 3 tiers of potential disaster for farmers... just plan for no subsidy in 2028 and you won't be far wrongThe solution is ā¦.. Donāt enter the schemes ā¦.
Donāt have the headache of ever changing rules and incomprehensible paper work
Well my modest holding won't be joining anytime soon....The solution is ā¦.. Donāt enter the schemes ā¦.

Why anyone would is beyond me. @Janet Hughes Defra comes on here and does her best but most of her comments seem to be her constantly repeating herself that some bit of info will be released next week/month - it was supposed to be a simple scheme so how can it take so long to give us info. Whole scheme is getting so complicated. Every scheme they've ever done has been full of errors and taken years to bed in.Farmers reveal ābrutalā treatment at hands of RPA - Farmers Weekly

i can see these soil tests absorbing a big chunk of the little we will eventually get , is it really necessary with perm pasture ? always some third party with their hands in the till somewhere. Why anyone would is beyond me. @Janet Hughes Defra comes on here and does her best but most of her comments seem to be her constantly repeating herself that some bit of info will be released next week/month - it was supposed to be a simple scheme so how can it take so long to give us info. Our ref: I am writing to give you a brief update on forthcoming funding schemes that will become available to farming businesses this year. I appreciate that these are turbulent times. The spike in oil and gas prices as the world emerged from the pandemic has been exacerbated by the appalling conflict in Ukraine. This is inevitably leading to sharp rises in input costs such as diesel, fertiliser, and feed as well as causing agriculture commodity prices to rise. While there are limits to what government can do in the face of such a surge in the price of gas, we want to ensure farmers have the options to help them chart a course through the current turbulence. At the end of March we announced that we will delay the introduction of changes to the use of urea fertiliser and we have also issued statutory guidance to the Environment Agency so that autumn spreading of slurry and other farm yard manures will be permitted under the Farming Rules for Water. Countryside StewardshipI am also pleased to see that some 31,000 farmers are now embracing our agri-environment schemes as they prepare for the future, and we are rewarding them by increasing payment rates for Countryside Stewardship by an average of 30%. This will increase the revenues farmers receive for their participation in these schemes. Last year there was an increase of over 40% in applications for Countryside Stewardship and we are encouraging remaining farmers not yet involved to take a look at the scheme again. It had a difficult start seven years ago but, outside the EU, we have had the freedom to simplify it and make it more accessible. We see Countryside Stewardship as a good stepping stone to the new farming policy and we will make it very easy for farmers to switch their current agreements into the new ones when they open.Animal Health and Welfare PathwayLater this year we will be opening the Pathway for applications. We intend to invite livestock farmers to apply for a payment from Ā£372 to Ā£684, depending on species, to pay a vet of their choice to visit their holding and give strategic advice on how to manage animal health and welfare issues relevant to their own particular holding. We know that dealing with endemic diseases has a crucial role in the profitability of livestock enterprises and we want to support farmers in improving animal health outcomes. Every livestock farmer who is currently eligible for BPS and a keeper of more than 50 pigs, 20 sheep or 10 cattle will be eligible for a payment to facilitate an annual vet visit. Further details will be made available before the applications open.Sustainable Farming IncentiveThis June, we intend to open the Sustainable Farming Incentive. The scheme will start with three standards focusing on arable and improved grassland soils. The SFI is open to all farmers eligible for the Basic Payment Scheme, and weāll extend this eligibility in future years. The scheme is a good option for those farmers who want to access a simpler scheme that is focused on good farm husbandry. We will pay farmers up to Ā£58 per hectare to deliver measures to improve the health and fertility of their soil. The funds will support the testing of soils, planting of winter cover crops and the incorporation of organic matter. Provided options do not overlap, it is possible to be in both Countryside Stewardship and the Sustainable Farming Incentive. In future years more standards will be made available, with the full set of standards in place by 2025. Future standards may include hedgerows and Integrated Pest Management. We will contact you again when the SFI opens.Lump Sum Exit SchemeEarlier this year we published details of our voluntary exit scheme. We want to support new entrants coming into the industry and will be giving more detail of our next steps in the near future, but we also want to help those who want to leave the industry to be able to retire with dignity. Therefore, we are offering a lump sum payment that is worth 2.35 times the historic annual BPS payment for those farmers who wish to leave the industry and either rent out, sell their land, or surrender their tenancy. This is subject to a cap which means the maximum payment will be just under Ā£100,000. It means that a family 300 acre farm who used to receive around Ā£30,000 as BPS could qualify for a one off exit payment of around Ā£70,000.The aim of our new farming policy programme is to support the choices that individual farm enterprises make. We want to end the rigid rules based system we had under the CAP. Instead, the future policy will be optional and modular. Farmers will be able to engage in the bits that work for their own business and their own circumstances. I intend to write to you with regular updates but our policy team in Defra are also available to assist with any questions you might have. If you have any thoughts or comments please do contact us on [email protected].
