That particular purchase was the last of the pool wheat in a store that they wanted empty. Can someone please explain to a thicko like me,why all you guys were doing forward sales 2 months ago for £300/ton or over, and now there are spot sales at £230/ton. Are these sellers so desperately short of money, that they have to sell at near 30% less, than to put their crop into pooled storage and sale later on? Surely that is most of the profit given away ?
All mine is on paper or ex central store. And I have insurance for anyone going bust.Well fingers crossed they buyers honour the very well sold stuff, £120 ton over spot makes me think it going to stay on farm for a while. Still have well sold June contracts here and no transport apparently!
How are Spring crops looking around elgin?Odessa has only 800,000 tons of storage capacity. And the 80 captive ships from February we believe have serious quality problems, not to mention depreciated goods.
At least their OSR doesn't get savaged by flea beetle with the luxury ofUkrainian farmer interviewed by the bbc told them last year he was getting about £250/t for wheat but this year its only about £85/t because of the war and blocked ports. Fuel had risen threefold for them too.
Totally agree.May be wrong but there has been a determined plan around the world to reduce crop prices it started a while ago politicians i would say have been talking around the worldto reduce prices and behined close doors to push the price down as many of you posting have said most of the fundamentals have not changed ukrain will not produce a significant amount of wheat next year and this year's crop will not be that great. The world reserves have been getting less as years go buy . China is preparing all the time for reduced world stocks a lot of people over there. The price of grain seamed to be pushed down before every harvest last few years have been . Just my take.
Politician out there said the 20 million tons in stock would be worth 10 billion to the country im sure he said, so they are having a bloody good uplift in price now. 500/t if my maths is correct, surely cannot be rightAt least their OSR doesn't get savaged by flea beetle with the luxury of
being grown with neonicotinoids.
Most reported farms in Ukraine seem to be agri businesses
backed up by western money ,been a bit of a learning curve.
They need the money at the moment so good luck to them.Politician out there said the 20 million tons in stock would be worth 10 billion to the country im sure he said, so they are having a bloody good uplift in price now. 500/t if my maths is correct, surely cannot be right
Can’t see how Russia would want to help a country it is trying to destroy financially. They need the money at the moment so good luck to them.
Because they will help themselves on a much bigger scaleCan’t see how Russia would want to help a country it is trying to destroy financially.
That’s kind of what I mean though, they will want to control it all.Because they will help themselves on a much bigger scale
at the same time and get the demining done for free.
War is costly.Got to watch its own finances too so part of the deal allows them to export grain and fert, plus it makes them look better trying to help feed the poorest countries. Russia forcasting a bumper harvest . Turkey is policing it all. Can’t see how Russia would want to help a country it is trying to destroy financially.
Last time I went to Turkey the stall holderturkey
Yes they will, you are wishing for it to happen & you got 3 likes. So thats at least 4.Yes. For me its a pain as I only really grow wheat interspersed with grass. The grass isnt really a payer, but the risk per acre is so drasticaly up that Im going to have to spread my bets a little. The additional cost per acre to grow wheat over spring barley, at prices for fert and grain is too high.
Last thing we want is a return to food prices being tiny while everything else has soared to the stratosphere. Noone is saying "oh wont it be great when house prices and builders day rates have dropped 20 percent to pre-covid levels".
