Dealer workshop hourly rates

Hi , I’ve received one or 2 rather expensive repair bills from local John Deere dealer for what I’d call straight forward fitting jobs. I’d expect the parts to be pricey being JD but the labour is astronomical!! I’ve not questioned them but one of the fitters told me they are charging £100 per hour! Yes you read that right!
Now some are going to say car dealers charge that and more , also the dealers have to invest in training, equipment etc but I am also running a business which requires feeding regularly with inputs… what I’m trying to say is those rates can’t be sustainable.. With certain input costs doubling , BPS ending etc.. This dealer has had the nickname of Rip offs for years, now it’s really living up to that name.
Speaking to a CaseIH dealer on Friday , they charge £ 58 per hour, are JD customers gullible about the marketing shi te that JD pump out and just pay whatever? I know I can’t carry on at these prices.

my local ish claas/cat dealer is on 180$ an hour. Add to that tool loading and unloading after a call out and 3.25 a km fir driving while he’s being paid the 180 an hour. Any time spent getting parts from parts department also at you got it 180 an hour. Something you have to just suck it up and pay even thou it hurts. Or look elsewhere. various One man bands around here if needed. Welsh man if you can get him is excellent.

Do you need a main dealer for "straight forward fitting jobs"?

In shop JD rate is £135 per hour here. More expensive than Cat.

To have a JD guy come on farm is £160 and 3.60 per mile plus a call out charge.

Don’t use a stealership unless absolutely necessary. Have an independent with more experience than all the guys at the dealership put together who charges £75/hr and I tell him every time I see him to charge more.

My man in a van friend from Devon was only at £30/hr last I asked. Don’t see why it’s like that over there.

There are a couple of ex Ripoffs fitters working for themselves east of Dallamires.
Apparently they are very busy.

I used them because I was too busy, lads that work here are no mechanics believe me and the van men were all flat out busy too.
Yes convenience is a factor but at rates like that, perhaps more should be done in house and other jobs either take a back seat or are done by others.
If the job does require a mechanic and dealer backup behind them then they are the rates, you just need to use them as little as possible.
Again, it all depends on the job.

Fendt dealer who serviced my deere is at 80 euros+, CaseIH dealer is at 91 euros. However they fitted new tierods at 400 euros each, when deerepartscatalog even gives you an alternative at 115 euros and the tbf i cant even feel any play in them, they got a quite angry call after that and will rethink my decision to let them service the tractor.

What happens when mr van man has to go to main dealer for parts??
He rings them up and orders them, we will pick them up if passing or he will on his way out. Main dealers generally come out for a look then have to run back for parts or order them and come out again.
They have all the diagnostic gear and software so are no different to main dealers in that respect.
