Why would you make a lot of expensive work by ploughing that, I’ve always thought that the most difficult land is the most logical to put into notill.
After seeing the sort of soils Simon Chiles was making a success of it on twenty years ago, I was sure that if it could work on stuff like that, it could work anywhere!

I have tried no till and regen, ok only for 7 years, yields - even after a 3 year grass break, were only just over half of the conventional, Spring crops rarely grew at all.

We are a very dry part of the world and our soil Mg is 5 + (as high as soyl goes) and it turns into iron as it slumps together. Gypsum is not allowed in high enough volumes to do any good as we drain into a drinking water reservoir (who own that land too and it is a condition of tenancy that we don't add things that they don't approve.)

So periodic ploughing is the only option, usually every September but this year has just been too dry to use a plough until now.
