Snow

Schadenfreude- seeing a nearly-new plate BMW X6 upside down on a snowy road. None of these people will be on winter tyres nor will they have any experience of driving on snow so it in reality nothing but a reason to avoid road use for that reason alone. Ditto for lorries...
Turned off the traction control this morning, I can anticipate what needs to be done far better than the black box

It snowed last night...

8:00 am: I made a snowman.
8:10 - A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn't make a snow woman.
8:15 - So, I made a snow woman.
8:17 - My feminist neighbor complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.
8:20 - The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.
8:22 - The transgender man..women...person asked why I didn't just make one snow person with detachable parts.
8:25 - The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.
8:28 - I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white.
8:31 - The middle eastern gent across the road demanded the snow woman be covered up .
8:40 - The Police arrived saying someone had been offended.
8:42 - The feminist neighbor complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.
8:43 - The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.
8:45 - TV news crew from BBC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied "Snowballs" and am now called a sexist.
9:00 - I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.
9:10 - I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.
9:29 - Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding for me to be arrested.

By noon it all melted

Moral: It all happened because of snowflakes

It's gone quiet because the figures show the hole is reducing in size, or at least that is what I remember of it the last time I read anything about it.

I've never found traction control all that intrusive on regular passenger cars. It was very clumsy on the pick up trucks I have driven. It probably varies between vehicles and brands but turning it off can also influence the ESP- if you have one of course.

Try as I might- believe me I have had some good goes- I can't get any of our Volvos to misbehave, whether you turn stuff off or not. The way the chassis balance and suspension is set they just won't let you do anything heroic.

The old Scoob however, was game for it all. Even the traction control and brain wouldn't kick in unless you really were taking the pish. Mind it had an LSD in the rear axle and thrived on revs. (y)

Issue is when you correct and then the box decides to as well, then you have to correct the over correction, which the BB corrects again, and before you know it your facing in the incorrect direction on the incorrect side of the road needing a correction of your underpants.

On a happier note, it's all slush and the tanker came up the hill without needing a pull

We had a fair dusting in Mid Devon this Morning. Sister in law half hour away is hell bent on a home birth and already 5 days over due so like a true grinch I was out early and got rid from the car and driveway with the leaf blower before it had a chance to freeze. Freeze tonight should make the now slush interesting

As I understand it, there’s a few different factors to consider before triggering the “severe conditions” warning:

“a clear and present danger of having a bit of a slip whilst wearing inappropriate trainers or Ugg boots thus affecting everyday activities such as walking your dog using one hand to browse your phone and the other to hold a drive thru coffee”.

“There is a high chance of your PCP Mercedes A-class skidding as you negotiate blind hairpin bends on A roads at 75mph”

“visibility is reduced such that it is necessary for Audi drivers to tailgate closer than the recommended 12ft”

“Road conditions must be such that it is possible for bbc reporters to drive to picturesque sites in their 2wd people carriers, in order to tell the nation that roads are impassible and to stay at home”

“everyday essential work continues as normal in private business whilst the public sector are told to stay at home and media outlets attempt to outdo each other with tall tales”
So,so true.

Everything always has to be qualified when they mention "since records began". Generally it turns out they’ve only just started keeping a record.
The Great Thames Frost Fair was when temperatures were below freezing every night from 27 Dec 1813 to 7 Feb 1814 and the Thames had ice 11" thick. There were several frost fairs in the early 1600s and 1800s, this became known as the Little Ice Age.
This is when weather "records began" as people were convinced the world was going to freeze. Hence it's hardly surprising that you hear "it's the warmest since records began" parroted every time there is a warm spell.
