Used Claas Lexion 480 or Case IH2388?

I’ve owned both and had them side by side in the same field. Love the 2388 for it’s simple design, easy to maintain on a day to day basis but at twenty plus years old a lot will need replacing. Seive /shaker shoe bushings I found a weak spot along with the hydro shaft coupling. The 480 was close to twice the combine except on very dry wheat. Very well build and fir the most part reliable but at 20 years old the electronics are likely to be failing and the wiring harnesses are known to chaff the wire thru. never done sunnies with mine but I’ve heard the returns elavator isn’t big enough for that crop. If I had to choose I’d buy 2 2388s as they are cheap combines and maybe even a third to park in the bushes for spares lol better cab on the 23 if you have long legs

Does Claas Mega 360 have any advantages over Claas Lexion 480?

I see that there are good reviews on the forum about NH CR980 / 9080. If this combine is compared with Lexion 480, what are your opinions?
From reading an earlier post you harvested soys into the 20s for moisture. In the ten years I had my 480 I’d never plugged it but came very close with soys. A very common problem with either green stem beans or long ropy higher moisture beans. Not an ideal situation fir the lex plugs the impeller and a major ball ache to clear.

The 2388 is the stuff of legends. Every body loves them and for good reason. There’s one here and it seems to go well enough, The biggest handicap with it is the operator as he’s clueless.

simple,reliable and decent output

lex 480 would blow one out of the water though for output.

as others have said if you can get bums on seats keep buying 23s until you have enough combine capacity with a bit in reserve as there far from new.

Mega 360 is far simpler to service and repair
It will handle your area easily
It will cost more to buy than a 480

Looks basically a small lexion. i assume it’s a walker ?? Don’t think I’d personally bank on that size of combine on 2000 acres. I’d want a much newer combine than what the OP is thinking about. Easy to loose money from down grading because of a broken down combine and higher drying costs from being forced into cutting easier and later in the day thru reduced capacity’s. Look at the 585,750tt. Track cost more but have lots of advantages

Op is in central europe so plenty harvest window for mega 360
No computers or crap on a 360

Yet he said he almost always combines maize sunflowers and soybean’s such that they need drying. High moisture crops take capacity and power all of which wOnt be coming from a 2388 or similar size combine. Very much agree with having no computers and less electronics

Then maybe consider combine NH CR9080? It looks simpler compared to Lexion 480/570 (fewer moving parts).
Never had much to do with NH. Had one 25 years ago. Ok but changed it for a 1680 caseih. what headers do you have now or available. That will be the next expense. Less moving parts is one thing but the electronic side will let you down first.

Nope. Axial flows are their own thing. I believe some of the new Holland TX’s were available in case colours for some markets but there’s no yellow painted version of an axial flow 2188, 2388 etc

Now there is an opportunity to purchase a combine Lexion 480 Evolution (2002) or 9880 STS (2004). Who has experience in operating these combines, share your opinions about their shortcomings or write which one is better in your opinion.

Lexion every time. I love JD but they hadn’t got them sorted out that long ago. If you’re looking at that era a late TX68 is worth a look but all of the above are going to have a fair few acres under their belts…no one bought top of the range combines to not exploit their full capacity
