Really? I've had poor wheats after fallow. The soil was dead without any plant life. I'm with Wigeon on this. Leave it then cultivate and establish a cheap cover crop through the summer to keep the worms busy and to have the take-all break.Fallow it. get nearly the same goodnes to the soil without the next years slugs.
Can you remember what was in the rainforest mix?Did this a few yrs ago. Disced it twice then drilled a summer cover in May. Was like a rainforest, then had the best wheat following. Expensive though.

If you do this, don't be tempted to drill too early, otherwise it'll run to seed too soon. From memory:
Phacelia
Japanese millet
Vetch
Berseem clover
Plus others I cant remember.
Came from Hutchinsons and was called maxi summer cover, or something like that.

Have had multiple people grow good crops of Canary Seed after this, cultivation to brown and warm the soil and increase the breakdown of the residue then drilled mid April, never seen an issue. GM's make sense this year with av. crop yields of 2-2.5t/ha linked to fixed contra's @ £550 p/t. Pays far more than a fallow/CC and makes use of any N/S/P/K already applied. What have others successfully grown when OSR has failed after receiving Astrokerb?
