Confessions of the Sheep/Beef Cattle/Pig Addicts

I’ve got one here it’s been the same poor calf tubed it for a few days messed on three times a day sucking it on managed to get it sucking i now think it’s blind needs vitamin a injection just been on the phone to the vet but she’s not sure she can get any she’s on looking for me now

How hungry are you letting it get? Nothing more frustrating. At least you're sure it's not sucking on its mother. We once tubed a big dopey blue for two weeks before realising it was also sucking by itself in-between which is why we could never get it to suck. Grandad found that one hilarious. Had another similar one this year which we were sure was suckling but still took 5 days to catch in the act, everytime you went near the pen he stopped what he was doing and just looked at you
We tubed one for 2 weeks and went in one day it had sucked same as you

Suckler calf, 6 days old. Cow calved with no milk. So never sucked off her. Bit prem I reckon. I cannot get a suck reflex out of it. I’m tubing it at the moment thinking it will start sucking soon and be able to go on a bucket. Tried Honey, tried salt, tried sugar. I’m out of ideas now. 🤷🏻‍♂️

any clues what to try next??

Had that happen before here too! Bloody calf only drank at night!
it’s in a lambing pen so defo not drinking anything else. I’ve been feeding it at 7:30/8am and again 9/10pm. Not the strongest so I haven’t dared miss a meal to make it hungry like you can with a month old one.

Been a hellish couple of days here, pulled a dead calf yesterday lost 3 ewes to I think staggers even with a f**king lick bucket out, got the truck stuck and then my missus slipped over and did her knee in, now my old dog has gone lame after helping catch a lamb 😩😩
Hopefully have a couple of calves tonight but my normal optimism is waning a fair bit so I'll probably be up all night calving the things

Sooner this spring is done the better

A girl came in the shed this afternoon with not a lot of clothes on, she wanted to see the pet lambs, I said sure but watch out because they are looking a tit to suck on. 🤭
🤣 I must have worked in all the wrong lambing sheds.
I do have a neighbour quite keen at sunbathing next to one of my lambing fields though 🤔

sadly completely woke mid 50’s vegetarian social worker 🙈

Yep👍 And the biggest NIMBY in the valley

Did get a a laugh today though. Had a digger sorting a drain near her house and cut through her water supply……. 1/2 an hour after me telling the driver that there was nothing to worry about where he was digging 🙈🤣
