sh!t lambing

Well our lambing has been slightly more work than normal, a much higher proportion of new mums being the main issue, that and having held on to one or two older ewes who, with hindsight, should have been away last year. I've actually had to lamb a few and pen a few up with their mums, which for a purveyor of Easycares is practically sacrilege!

I am however very glad we moved lambing into April though and missed that cold driving rain in March.

Ewe lambs off to a flying start, then nothing for 11days now, 2/3 to go. Ram used was very late coming to me so didnā€™t get mixed with the other rams. We had Border disease last year and itā€™s just dawned on me that he probably caught it and it apparently takes 2/3weeks to get over it so looks like heā€™s missed at least a whole cycle:banghead:

Whatā€™s the consensus on watery mouth treatment, tried a few things with limited success, also what about mastitis do any get over it if caught early enough.
Vet persuaded us to do some ewes with Imcolibov this time, so we did the treble bearing ones, on the basis that they are the most likely to be a bit short of colostrum.
Have to say we had only a couple or three of cases of WM in total, that 0.5ml of Betamox sorted.
Didn't use anything prophylactic in the lambs, other than being straight in there with Betamox if a lamb looked half peaky.

Thanks what's the symptoms of it. How do they get it

It causes abortion in sheep. Cats can spread it if they soil on the sheeps feed. But it can be spread from one sheep to another if they are mixed at lambing time/ while they are aborting (i think). Its a while since i have read up on it. Lots if info on it if you google it.
We vaccinate all new breeding sheep coming into the flock for it.
They only need 1 vaccine in their lifetime , but it's not cheap at approx Ā£6 a sheep.

It would be worth getting your vet involved to try help you. Are they aborting?

Done toxo and enzovax for around 5 years now and it has cut abortion massively, missed toxo last time as unavailable, not sure whether to just go enzo going forward.

We've had about 5 abort
Next one that aborts get foetus and as much placenta as you can sent off for testing. Only way to know if you have a problem. Can only be done through a vet. Isolate anything that aborts immediately. Hygiene v important. Sorry if this stuff you already know
