Hilux or DMax

I think every Nissan I have owned or know of, have been bother. My d22 engine blew at 50k, d40 rusting through at the chassis, and the latest ones are no better. Neighbour had 3 engines in his. Jap pickups used to be reliable now they all seem to be bother. My last dmax was fairly reliable until the end but the rust underneath was hellish for a 10 year old machine, just don’t think they are designed for the climate around here and constantly covered in sheep/cow sh!t if used for shepherding. I don’t know why they don’t galvanise them it would cost nought.
With the type of stop start driving that it’s used for we’ve decided to go back to buying new since they have 5 year warranty and keeping for 4 years and changing so there’s still a years warranty left.

I changed my 13 reg Yukon for a 1.9 Utah last year. I wish i hadnt bothered! Gears are set much lower than the 2.5 Yukon, and you just end up revving it more. Its put me off Isuzu to be honest. I think 1.9 engine are far too small for towing a 14 foot trailer. The only good thing about it is the heated seats.
I put 125k on my 2.5 towing and thought the gear ratios were all wrong from day 1. Would’ve welcomed lower ratios. 6th never got used

Just ordered a D-Max. My only comment from the test drive was that it 'was a bit flat'. It is coming with the optional, dealer/isuzu endorsed 'remap' to take it over 200hp. The size of the engine does not put me off. Plenty of 20.0 4 cylinders putting out plenty more.

Be handy for moving poachers (or whatever they call themselves) on too 😁

Thank you. Have you missed the 2.5 or is 1.9 good enough? I demo'd a good spec dmax in 2012, it gave me back ache pretty quickly, quickly enough to drive it to toyota dealer and genuinely play them off for the more comfy truck, which the hilux was without doubt. Is the new one more comfortable to sit in?

I’ve gone from 2.5 to 1.9 new d’max. Would not go back to 2.5. I think it’s better in so much as it pulls just as well if not better and without trailer I’m sure it’s faster than the old 2.5 whilst using a bit less diesel. A bigger engine without all the emissions crap would have been better but that’s not going to happen. Bit too many driver assist features with the biggest turd being brake assist. Seat is more comfortable and generally all round better except they’re getting a bit expensive.

That was my thoughts when demo’d but the d’max delivered has not felt that way at all.

My d’max is in for repairs. A post carelessly jumped into the panel behind back wheel. Whilst in they have loaned me an auto d’max that has the power upgrade - £800+vat the most expensive remap on earth probably 🙄 I have to be honest and say it doesn’t feel any different to my auto that hasn’t had the power upgrade!

I would recommend an auto over the manual.

Had a 2010 Hilux manual now have 69 plate dmax auto ,both great vehicles only changed because I wanted an auto box, Toyota garage wouldn't get me one to demo despite me buying the previous one there and them being 300 metres from the farm, dmax dealer was very helpful, gave me the keys and said have it for the wind . Got a very good deal and so far have done over 27,000 miles in it including three times to the Alps and while we don't use it that often for towing it pulls 3.5 of straw without any issue, value for money it was a good buy.

Good idea, that’s what did for our Isuzu…..school run and pottering about shepherding. Didn’t want to knacker my Amarok the same way so bought the panda for those jobs.

If I was buying a new pickup it would be a new ranger.
They are game changer to the pickup market with their technology on board.

I can’t believe how many of the rangers have appeared on the road here.

I’ll probably be buying the amarok. Same tech nicer finished interior and looks better. Never a ford fan.

Know some who drove a basic new ranger and was very underwhelmed competing it to his previous gen model

I'm not a fan of all this tech. Just more to go wrong and every revamp pick ups get bigger which makes parking an issue in the UK plus as they get higher my wife complains it's harder to get into.

I just want a basic workhorse. They are way too flashy to work now. I have an old landrover and it’s still perfect for farm work just powerwash it off inside and out. Got a hilux too but class it as too good to knock about
