Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

I have built a business up. I set everything up when I bought land, there was no subs on it. I bought some units a few years later and went into the reserve for some others
I get that bit. If you can farm without sub then effectively you are much more efficient and ahead of nearly everyone else as most people’s taxable profits on account are less than their sub cheque so with this in mind you should have this built up already or in the process of why wait?

You think you can farm without it , think a bit more and you might not to be able to farm without other farmers …. I doubt you make much without it either …. Yes money is to be made with it and i hope one day all make a great living with out but we all need each other and many many more can not farm without it .
How can I compete when some have the backing of the sub say in buying sheep or renting land. When it’s gone it be more even.

I already have. I’ve invested all of what I have in building my farm up. I’ve put sheds up and there’s stock in there all year round. Only thing hurting me is the internet rates but anyone with borrowed money is on the same boat

Will you do it though or will you be moaning about something else’s by then and blaming some other unfair process ?
I’ll be doing it. No point moaning it doesn’t solve anything: I take any opportunity that comes my way. If I have to borrow more money to do so be it. As long as i make the payments and have some left over I’m good

I don’t have my head in the sand I just don’t buy into any of the crap being told on tv and social media. I’m better off mentally as well. I don’t worry about things line nvz and new regs that may come out. I was told I needed 6 months storage for pig muck so I built a store that could hold it for at least 6 months. Instead of moaning about rules and regs I’m proactive and adapt as I’m going along
I take it you are not that old, there comes a time when you have to put more consideration in to borrowing for infrastructure as you don't still want a load of debt on worthless things when you retire.

Bought some land and there was no subs with it. Farmed for a few years then bought some
We had to buy subsidy entitlements to begin with, it was suckler cow subsidy back then, don't think that every older farmer was just handed it to begin with cos they weren't

Have been to a number of farm sales over the years where the farmer had not long spent a lot of money on infrastructure and something changed so they couldn't make it work. the stock in the shed should pay for the shed plus interest shouldn't they

Why does everyone keep on about farm subsidies. Its not your money. It was never intended to be your money. It is a Government method to encourage and secure food production on farms to reduce the base price of said foods for the general public. I.E. The Consumer.
Where it has been modified for conservation/wildlife that is a totally different aim. Our union missed the opportunity in challenging the redirection of food support funding to cover it..
It is and i hole it works out for all , all this free money just haveing control of the land has not been good thing.
