Keir Starmer ,if in power, plans to force farmers to sell building land at its agricultural value, regardless of its real building site value. Will builders be lobbying local authorities to grab your land at a massive discount.Robert Mugabe was quite successfull in such tactics with his farmers.Beware!

Well a lot of farmers will be sitting in jail for more than digging in a river

We would be in great danger of this, we are on the village edge which is only one playing field away from a big town, constantly getting offers to sell from developers but don't want to sell, but if this comes in then it would be stolen from us for certain.

That was the law here till about 1970
Thats how the uk built all those council houses so cheap after Ww2
A hangover from that is no compensation for tenants if whole farm taken

Well might be better than Conservatives who would like to stop us doing anything at all.
When the council compulsorily purchased land from my great grandmother it was at ag price. Didn’t seem unreasonable at that time. Took a lot of the awful jealousy, high stakes speculation and undeserved reward for nothing more than good fortune out of the job. And they built her an old folks bungalow in appreciation on the site in which she lived rent free till she died. To be honest it all seemed a more equitable situation all round.
If the council came and offered me £10k an acre for council houses I’d take it. But Mr Speculator can sling his hook.
I feel it’s the same with renewable energy. The government should requisition land. Then there’s no more haggling over it. Job done. Get on.

Just goes to show the chaos in the minds of these people.
On the one hand they want prosperity and on the other they want to steal your productive asset.
'We'll get you cheap housing' is prime political real estate.
Never seen a volunteer force of civil servants building sh!t..

Something needs to be done to slowly deflate the property market and move investment back into production in my view. It will probably take measures as described to achieve this. A hime should an affordable accessory to a life well lived not the be all and end all, not the thing that sucks up every ounce of your effort till you are 95 which is what the next generation is facing if nothing changes. Something or somebody has to give and if it’s the fortune we’ve made on paper by land value capital appreciation by doing nothing more than sitting on it, then maybe that’s not entirely the most unfair outcome. Even ag value is colossal in my view considering the paltry returns. Just how much do people want?
