we have just been offered 25 acres of grass, for hay, done our own.

weather forecast is a bit iffy, but hasn't really proved to be very accurate recently !

that's the gamble we all take with hay, and why wrapping is so popular !

we will cut next week, lightish cut, as long as they don't speak of general rain.

Hi

We made some lovely June hay like everyone else I presume but left half our crop to bulk up as it’s old tired grass!!

Who else has hay still to cut with the weather forecast for the next 2 weeks ?
Same here , being pretty high up some of the grass hadn't really got growing when we had the best of the weather. Now we have grass , but not such settled good weather.

Just rowed up some neighbour’s meadow grass cut on Thursday morning and tedded 3 times. It had no fertiliser and has made extremely fast.
Forecast iffy for tomorrow so I’ll round bale it before it rains.

Fertiliser was expensive and a lot of grass didn’t get any this year.
East of Bedford seems to be very dry and short of grass.
Many already feeding winter feed. So hopefully there will be a reasonable price for hay this year.

Got 45 acres down at the mo, fit now, but will be baled on Monday. Have another 50 acres to do, but will leave it a week. It looks like the weather for the beginning of July is settled for us. Though just checked before posting and it is now showery 🤦‍♂️, but I am sure that will change!

Last rain we had was Tuesday night, wet the road. Nothing since yet its been forecasting rain everyday into next week.

Was gonna mow yesterday and chickened out cos Sunday was looking like a fair drop, that now looks like it's not happening and nothing till Wednesday. Mind you met office day by day says one thing and the radar says another.....

We made some cracking stuff in that good hot spell but we've not scratched the surface.

Still thinking about mowing tomorrow l to chance it but I just dont know....

I haven’t made any yet, and 15ac shut up for when the weather comes. It was all grazed bare in April though, and the drought has meant there’s hardly a heavy crop there now.

Certainly wouldn’t have made in the last fortnight as we’ve had a bit of drizzle every other day. Not enough to do any good, but enough to make any hay musty and dull.
