Apparently the board went. They were having their remuneration rubber stamped by the remuneration rubber stamping committee. I heard there was a recital too...
The terrible figures were explained away in an implausible way as one of those things (you know how it is -- misplace car keys, lose the GDP of an African nation, walk the dog -- its all the same).
The Chair was a bit awkwardly racist when challenged on diversity, saying in essence:
"we try to deal with the (finally now admitted) big problems with a lack of marginalised people being represented but there isn't any talent among the disabled, ethnic minorities etc so what can you do -- lol"
That bit was kind of awful, frankly.
Disgraceful in fact.
Then the CEO denied there was industrial misseling, where it is in the press which have been reporting it since February.
Hard to see how that wasn't a deliberate lie given all that has gone on.
People in the room had cleared funds in thier accounts for THE MISSELLING THAT NEVER HAPPENED.
And yes, delicious pay for executives and for directors was nodded through by the chair having most of the voting rights to spaff those as ever he wanted (oddly in a way that gave him >£200k!! Who would have thought it!!).
No proper shareholders would have stood for a £1bn loss and then that performance of slipperyness only to reward shitty leadership with millions of pounds.
It is understood that the BIG COURT CASE THAT DOESN'T EXIST is about to develop in a way even this clown car can't pretend doesn't exist.
The whole thing is a grotty out of body experience in a kind of gruby Trumpton.
The pigeons will come home to roost, they always do. Such a shame, great organisation in its day. All are going the same way. Banks, Insurers, vets, accountants, you name it.
You are better off dealing with the smaller firms who are grateful for your business and who know who you are.
The moment you ring in and they ask for your account number and postcode you know you are done.
