I will price it all up for 200 calves & see what it looks like, we have a greenfield site so everything will be expensive, all depends on specs they require
How much will it pay back in reduced vet/med improved growth rates.

If the additional spec costs doesn't lead to improved productivity who do you claim from?

I’ve been waiting a while to hear details for this grant to finally come out but I’m a bit disappointed. Granted you should be prepared to go through a bit of hassle when they chuck about money like this. But it doesn’t seem that straightforward.
I know its easier than you might think to spend enough to reach the minimum grant level but yet again it seems in favour of bigger producers. Why do they always cap it at such a large figure? Would it not be better to help out more people with slightly smaller amounts?

I think it would actually be very difficult to build a new calf house at the spec that they require with all the fittings for less than 37500 even on a small farm at today's prices.

Open sided shed & igloos wouldn’t be crazy money. Like I said before I know costs soon add up (especially with concrete where its to now). Depends how many calves you were looking to rear at a time. They also allow second hand items. But why not cap it lower than they have. In theory all the money could just go to 20 farms.

Gordon brown used to say something similar now our interest payments on national debt is only eclipsed by the NHS budget.
At some point somebody has to take responsibility.
Should've struck by Liz truss she wouldve had the economy sorted by now 🙈🤣

How many cows ina row of your parlour? Seems like an easier solution would be to start dry off trimming a month prior to dry off and do a few each day rather than 40 a day for 5 days?

There’s a lot of sense to that

It’s just I’m an impatient bugger

I don’t like to start trimming until the cows are housed. Which is normally the last day of November.
So that leaves 20 days to get them trimmed. Take of 4 days for actual drying off 6 days for weekends and a day for the culls to be sorted and sold and you haven’t got many left for trimming!

Has anyone had a sales visit from AHV, or even started using their system https://ahvint.com/en/cow-calf/ ?
They talk a very convincing story, with multiple benefits. When I asked them for trials data they sent me a paper which looked like an undergraduate lab study, not published or peer reviewed.
I then asked for proper trials data, and a product information sheet. Since then, there has been no response which reinforces my suspicion of snake oil.
