FEC varying with DM% of sample?

Do we need to make allowance for this when calculating the FEC? Suppose lamb A, 30%DM dung and lamb B, 60%DM may have identical worm burdens but would you expect to get the same FEC result? How would they vary? Anyone sufficiently anal to have worked it out?

I’ve asked the same question of various experts and they always say that it shouldn’t make a difference, but I think they real reason is that they don’t know.

I’ve always thought it must make a huge difference if the eggs are being flushed through in loose, black squit, compared to dry brown pellets.

I will lie awake tonight thinking of this conundrum.

I discussed this at length with an Aussie worm geek at a parasite conference (my idea of a good time 😔) ...the outcome was that they used to recommend using a sliding scale for different DM% but it was so difficult to accurately estimate the DM that they gave up.
IMO the trend in FEC is as important than the FEC itself

So they (Aussies) have worked something out. Was it as simple as a doubling of DM% resulting in a doubling of FEC, or something of that order? As for estimating DM, why not have another rough and ready 1-5 scale as for dagginess, or the 1-12 of the Beaufort scale! Agree that the trend is as crucial.
