Landrovers can wade, even before you buy em, terrible down there!
Derby JLR

The JLR dealership in Derby was, I understand, built on or close to the old cattle market site and they were warned before they built it

"the public body (Environment Agency) claimed that the dealership would end up under two metres of water – or more – in a “one in 100-year” flooding scenario."

meanwhile go back almost 100 years and more and it has all happened before

"it has been recorded that substantial flooding was experienced in Derby on many occasions such as in 1673 and 1740 and also 1750 ,when it was reported that Derby had, one of the most terrible tempests of lightning, thunder and rain that was ever known.” There was also the flood of 1842 which hit Derby so badly that a huge culvert had been built afterwards on Markeaton Brook, in an attempt to prevent a similar flood. However, in 1932 a flood overwhelmed those defences so dramatically that it became known as The Great Flood of Derby.)"

IMHO it's stupidity and and a lack of basic common sense that pervades society, but I'm just a stupid old man so what the feck would I know,

One in a hundred year flood should send off warning alarms, there's no reason that couldn't happen 3 times in 5 years...

When people say that "extreme" weather events happened many years ago, yes true, here in the uk we had the terrible winter of 1962-63, where i think it didnt get above freezing for more than 30 days in a row? Any one on here old enough to remember that winter, i was only 2? The big big difference i see is, when you compare these past times to the present, one the population has increased by a massive amount, so with the population growth so has human encrouchment into, what was "undeveloped" land, countries such as australia, newzealand, canada, many parts of africia, there are now human settlements on land, that say 50 odd years ago was "virgin" untouched native "wilderness", one example to quote, ( we can all become experts, from the internet? the population of the state of texas has nearly doubled in size in the space of just 50 odd years, this and many many other examples means that people are now living, working in areas that in the recent past were unsettled, and by that any "natural" weather events such as drought, flooding wouldnt be a problem as it is today?

Yes , Today in UK they build on flood plain and wonder why they get flooded !

There's acres of industrial unit rooves and tarmac all going down the guzzler and the guzzler doesn't get cleaned out now cos the " experts" won't allow it ....

Then you get the global warmers filming it all for propaganda purposes and the merry-go-round continues 🤷

Precisely. I feel for those in oz when they get burned pr flooded out, but it was doing that there long before we left a few convicts.
