Still looking for land drains. Found one, traced it down by the marks in the clay.

Found where it joined the next one, hole flooded.

Pump couldn't keep up but further investigation revealed that the water was coming back up the drain from the river where the outfall is just under water, will have to wait a bit methinks.
Do you not have a prodder that you poke down to find the drain, saves a lot of digging.
Mine is a few feet of 10mm round bar pointed on one end with a tube welded as a T for a handle at the other. It was my Dad's before I got it. Done some prodding over the years that has.

Yes I do but the slight problem is that there aren't many stones in this ground but occasional ones that put you off the scent.

The other problem is that the ground is so hard a 10mm bar would need knocking in with a big hammer, when it is soft enough to push it in by hand the whole lot is 18 inches under water. Trying to sort things out before that happened.

So today I went to find a fence on the other side of that field as there is a ditch behind it the bottom of which that is higher than my field.

So coppicing the hedge, take down the fence (easy, threaded plain wires) dig ditch out, mend fence. The other side is not ours and is a very long way to track in a digger - at least 2 miles.
