Next years wheat... ha. Got rained off on Monday trying to drill the last of our first 28ac field. Had 2 runs around the outside left to, but had the choice of go down a steep bank and probably not get back or bail out, so I bailed. Maize still isn't off. Might be a spring barley year 🤦‍♂️ . At least I can feed that, and the straw.

our wheats have gone from patchy to ok in 5 day's , hoping for good in another 5. ;) :)

The next few days will see the outrun of the October drilling period. There were three separate drilling periods in Lincolnshire in October 2023. Of 3 - 5 days each between the periods of heavy rain. Crops from the first week October have now all emerged and it is possible to define. Crops from the second batch also emerged. Crops from the third batch are still at emergence stage. No further emergence will occur after this week coming, so one will be able to asses what is viable. I have started this process on the farms I visit assessing the areas lost already to standing water and slugs. These are total losses. I shall be doing more over the next few days. I will also tally up what was sown in comparison to intended. My gut feeling is 60%. Of that I estimate at least 10% has been lost, probably more. An unmitigated disaster in my part of LIncolnshire as in Autumn 2019 very little was actually sown. Hey ho. I will report further end of November.

I’m sure you all can beat these amazing prices from cargill. I’m sure it’s a mistake.

Where abouts in North Yorkshire? Obviously not commenting on yours but there is a lot of lean 6 row rubbish about this time, happy to pay a premium for 2 row with a decent bushel
I’m near malton, I think all my barley is spoken for I just sell it local with what ever the price is on the day normally. I’ve got rid of my lean spring barley winter was fine.
