Well a 750 ton weighs approximately 100ton plus 200 ton plus of counter weight,?

Don’t know what’s going to pick one of those up if it’s tipped over,

5 axles, Oooof. So probably an easy 50 tonne there. Do I have any higher bids?

Quite interesting these machines. Wonder what a crane operator is paid?
The tower crane drivers are on series money probably the mobile are/should be on very good money also with the responsibility
When you consider excavator and dozer drivers on low to mid twenties more if agency without job security
Be a few in job markets shortly as hs2 shuts down and I reckon housing job be shutdown a month over Christmas

Not enough ... 's why they can never get enough operators ..... often very looong days (no tachos) and pretty crap conditions.
on 5 axles he's allowed 13t / axle on the road .... 96t would be his operating weight, with all ballast installed (often travels separately, but some take the p*ss and carry their full ballast on their deck)
he's probably a 200t capacity machine .. LTM1200 possibly
here's one the right way up :giggle:

How can a 48 ton machine lift 100 tons
his ability/capacity to lift is down to stability .... with outriggers out he has a very big footprint ... plus additional ballast as required for his load/working radius
96 tonnes?! Holy fudge.
It says picture of a 96t crane toppled over so I assume that’s what it weighs
don't believe all the press write ... 99% of the time they have no idea what they're on about :rolleyes:

here's a 500t Liebherr, with its 'Superlift' rigged, doing 6t at 58m lifting an MRI scanner into the local hospital .... IIRC there's 260t of ballast on the back end ... arrived on a lot of specialist multi axle trailers and had two additional cranes to assemble it

the superlift is designed to minimize the boom deflection by taking some of the strain at the cranes 'cat head' .... without it, it would not be able to stand the load at that radius
NEVILL HALL 9355.jpg

and for an idea of scale ... the operator must've been 17-18 st. :giggle:

mate, and his wife are pilot's they was telling us one night that the plane, wing on 737, when it’s on the ground it is at zero percentage and it can flex either way when in flight by 8.5 metres if I remember correctly I was quite astonished by this.
Yep. If you ever took off in a jumbo jet you would see the wing bent way down then slowly rise as about to take off. The Wright brothers would never have believed it.

In a previous job, we used to deliver and position switch gear, air con units, etc, into commercial sites in London,
The crane manager, could do all the calculations, etc, to plan a lift, to the nearest metre,
One job in Golden sq of Regent street, all planned, everything turned up crane, weight lorries, 2nd crane, delivery lorry, Saturday night full road closure,
Except the client failed to arrange the road closure, job cancelled. as vehicles in the way,
Cost approximately £35 k and it didn’t happen till the following week, and another £35k,
And this was 20 yrs ago,

There was an incident some years back near Penwortham , Preston , when a heavy carrier was taking a pottery kiln to the docks . The driver accidentally turned down a narrowish lane , and the road edge collapsed allowing the outfit to roll over into the field . They did what they could for access and then hired all the local farmer's tractors for the pull . Successfully - and they got it upright and fit to go , started to move it and the whole lot went over again ! Bet that was a sickener for the organiser of the recovery !
