Just had an email back from defra apparently to proceed with my application I need permission off NE because I have some land in a sssi WHAT THE ACTUAL F has it got to do with them
Been like that for years with mid tier too. SSSI in the HEFER, you need NE sign off on any agreement.

"Address, holding number, I need NE consent in order to sign off an SFI agreement, none of the options I have selected shall impact the SSSI in any way, Kind regards."

I still need to rectify an issue where an SSSI zone on waste ground prevents selecting certain sfi options on some boarding parcels which are outside the SSSI zone....

I presume that the SSSI has pre agreed management plan with NE and thus the SFI options selected mustn't clash with the SSSI management plans. This is mentioned in the SFI HEFER if you take a look. But as ever I could well be wrong - just a stab at an explanation. As an aside I have a farm I o to with a SSSI that has no management plan. So will be interesting to see how the SFI application process reacts to that. Cheers.
I get that and to be honest was half expecting it but why would I need permission for sfi and not permission to actually farm the land the way I like 😡

If you have options within an SSSI then it may need a more detailed form..

Be slightly thankful (said tongue in cheek). I have found out a client has land caught by a registered Park designation. Permanent Pasture grazing land for a dairy farm. I assumed would be able to pop it into Legume in grass - but no none of the grassland options are allowed, not even low input grass. I am about to ask if this is absolute or negotiable - I suspect not. WInners and loser, I fear. Cheers.

Same here and the only option I've put on is HRW1 which is literally a written assessment of the hedgerow, no physical action on the ground. For that parcel it's worth £6 a year to me 🤦🏼‍♀️

I asked if I could take that parcel out but apparently not without withdrawing the whole application and starting again. Quicker to send the form off to NE and hope for a quick turnaround 🤞

Well, phoned RPA today to see if they had any updates. The chap said NE could take ages to get back to me so I decided I would get the ball rolling on withdrawing the application so I asked for a call back from the SFI team...

Ten minutes ago had a reply from NE confirming I don't need any permission for the action. Less than 5 working days turnaround and someone at NE working after 5pm.... Who'd have thought it? Good job I hadn't managed to withdraw the application.

Straight question - is there anything preventing someone putting the whole of their arable area into AHL2 for 3 years? Has anyone done/doing it? Presumably, it is allowable to reduce the AHL2 area by 50% in year 2 or 3 if desired?
Again conflicting advice - been bouncing the idea around and just had someone tell me that they had been told they couldnt.

I asked on the AHL2 thread as well and a forum member shared the email he had from RPA which clearly stated that you could indeed put the whole of the eligible land in AHL2 for the 3 years of the agreement.

if your land won’t grow 4ton, spending a fortune on blackgrass and/or paying a big contractors bill AHL2 looks a good option.
I think having looked at our own figures there is a very good argument to grow AHL2 instead of 2nd wheats, triticale and barley - along with 1st wheats and OSR. In our situation, there would have been the opportunity to earn a not insignificant income from contract fencing with the time freed up by putting all the arable into AHL2, along with reduced risk and potential to rent out grain stores/drying facilities. However, as much as one tries to be completely business minded about it, there is still the desire to 'farm'.
