THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (Thursday 15th November) Sold 4085 Prime and Store Sheep and Feeding Ewes & Rams. New Season Prime Lambs (2216) averaged 256p per kg (-11p) and sold to 321.8p per kg for a pen of 39kg Beltex from Ashley Cottage, Greens and £168 gross for a Pure Texel’s from Belnoe, Chapeltown. New Season Prime Lambs SQQ up to 45.5kg (1101) averaged 263p per kg (-7.6p). Store Lambs (41) sold to £110. Feeding Ewes & Rams (1828) averaged £67.73 and sold to £274.50 for Texel’

Back 11p/kg on week. Watched half an hour on line and looked to be 6 buyers instead of usual 4. Price still back. They looked to be handling more of the lots and what I saw looked very good lambs.

Sold some stores at Lazonby, mules £91, swales £55
Feeding ewes , Texels £101 & £70 , swales £36 & £5

From what I saw in Drayton on Wednesday there’s far far too many half baked store lambs going through the fat, pulling back the prices and making the buyers cautious. From what I’ve heard Bentham was very similar on Wednesday evening

Good time of year to be getting them out the fat and into the shed on a hopper for a couple of weeks.

Fella I know had a fair lot out of there. But he was saying it’s not that great as you get too many tup lambs mixed in with them.

Also them grass fed things being dumped dont just go into a shed on a hopper very well. You need to know where there coming from.

Good grading no h’s. Strange that one lamb is manualy graded (m) and the rest are machine graded (a).

With the reduction in sfp and everyone telling farmers to cut costs I’ve decided this year to do away with rud for tuppin and go for a more natural cost saving product better known as mud….

thankfully the weather keeps helping me with the plan
