1stly a painting hmmm
2ndlt probably all they could produce anywway then .
3rdly how many years ago ? Im talkimg about today not the past .
Providing high kill out % is not quality its quantity which the systems wants and that why folk follow it rightly so in many cases , their is nothing in the system that pays for eating quality .. as their is in other countries .
Eating quality is mostly ruined after the animal leaves the farm, no point paying for eating quality then ruining it.
that said if the store market started paying more for Hford cross I would get a Hford bull, we used to have them and I liked them well enough.

I wouldn’t say so…..when the butchers wanted pot bellied angus and herefords that’s what farmers kept….when they wanted lean double muscled blues that’s what farmers kept….now they want a fatty limmy that’s what farmers are keeping…..I’d say some of these auld farmers are very willing to supply what the market wants
Yep. Farmers tend to follow what the buyers want. Makes sense

It’s no good keeping some cattle then complaining about the grading system or whatever else
Ive never mentiond breeds, im unaware of which breeds would score highest on eating quality it could be your beloved limmys for all i know …… all i say is we sell a product that has no measure of end result … its daft the better it tastes the more that will sell but obviously plenty cant see the big picture beyond their own here and now .

Marbling can be measured in individual breeds , improving marbling can be within your chosen breed it s not a case of bailing out of a breed its a case of we need meat trade to measure our produce and pay premium for marbling etc . I dont see why this is mentioned on here it turns into breed bashing ….. the big picture is better the product the more that will sell ! Commodity production fails evertime in the uk , need to produce quAlity produce that folk want dont confuse quality with quantity .. look at the rise of wagu ……. Its got the potential to steal alot of trade away from beef farms …

not argued against it, if thats what buyers start looking/paying for I will do my best to provide.
Im sure everyone dose, for example i have a great buyer of hereford bull calves so i do my best to provide at a premium. Not to measure eating quality is like selling Morris minors and saying its what everyone wants as they buy them …. Someone comes along with Audi one day …

Its pretty laughable that none of you show any interest in improving or at least capitalising on something you might already produce ? Youd rather argue against it , mean while our competitors are working hard on eating quality beef …….
When they start paying us for it… then we will start capitalising on it. Until then, we will stick to producing what leaves a profit margin
