Good. Costs a fortune to grow veg, it’s only right it gets bought and used. Place I used to go every Friday for 10/12t of carrots used to reckon that 4t in every 20 wouldn’t meet food grade spec. Then they graded the 4t into netted 1st grade horse carrots, netted or bull bagged 2nd grade horse carrots and then stockfeed in a bunker at the end to go on tractor trailers. 3 trailers of stockfeed they did a week. Small family firm using 90% their own carrots!

Can't remember the cost but I've got 20k/acre in my mind?

How’s everyone else’s turnips lasting? ours went on 14 days ago and are hammering through them at an alarming rate, think they will be almost finished in 21 days unless we buy a lot of beet to eak it out to at least get to early feb. Usually get to late feb or early march (sometimes ploughing them in to get sb in).

Ours are the same .. this weathers not helping i dont think .. got a batch of feb lambing ewes on bales and there flying through them faster than usual. Going to bring them in tomorrow, might as well feed them in then shed as feed them outside and make a mess.

Our ewes are eating less in than when they were out.

Its been brutal last couple of weeks just no break for them..also thought bring them in we dont want them loosing condition
Agree 100%. This is the first year I haven’t been able to house at least half of them and it’s starting to get worrying now. Fields getting poached, fields that would usually be closed up to provide spring grass now bare, and those ewes due early March under unnecessary pressure. Fortunately have plenty of bales. Going to start giving them some concentrate in the next few weeks (another cost), just need to work out how as it will have to be in troughs.

Ive never seen our feilds so wet as this year. Its shows tho we have a batch away on some land that on stone and is miles drier. There looking a hell of alot happier than these ewes at home in this wet sh!t

You need the right land to outwinter unless you have a very low stocking rate that means you waste your grass in the summer. Fields normally considered reasonably dry are wet fields this year. Our driest fields are where there are old quarry workings so the feeders are virtually on stone. I was struggling to get to those feeders yesterday with the tractor. I remember a few years ago I used to drive up to those feeders with a bale of hay in the back of the p/u without difficulty. That’s how much things have changed.
