I’ve got 50 Stabiliser cows. They go to a Charolais and a limmy bull. Get 5 or 6 bulling heifers of the same place every year. If I increased numbers I think I’d carry on doing the same.

barren cow price has increased 23p/kg from 2 weeks ago

held ours back, still giving a drop of milk.

how has that price effected the prime price ? Up/down/same.

OM reckoned they would pay well for on lot, av for the second, and have you on the 3rd. Sorry, we will add a bit to next load............... Should av out, but not sure it ever did, or not in our favour anyway.

not sure the meat trade is 'transparent', or there are a 'few' rogues in it.

The one thing baldy didn't take into account was the fact the 150 stabiliser calves would cost more to feed and keep than the 100 continental calves to get them to 12 months,mind you it's not all new thinking I can remember my late father telling me that his father used to tell him to keep a small cow as they were cheaper to keep ,and he died 75 years ago

Lilburn have just as many rejects as everybody else, he's in a big way and marketing the breed so he culls hard in a way that most of us can't afford, no one ever sees the shyte but I can assure you they have their share.

Lakenvelders are a duel purpose bred.
They are the original sheeted/belted breed that were imported to produce sheeted somersets and belted Galloways by crossing them with the local cattle at the time [1800's]

A lot of the store Stabilisers change hands privately through the breed Society, occasionally an unsold batch makes it onto SML. They will also market the fat bulls for you into Woodheads or did do anyway on a scheme they were running
