Anyone else feel insulted by Bagshaws auctioneer in Bakewell when selling your livestock, the one that is meant to be the senior partner makes various comments about eith store cattle or store lambs when selling, heard him say once they only had hay and that seems to have blown away

I don't know about insulted,but it makes me feel old when AS is the senior partner and I can remember him as a junior auctioneer selling the hay and straw in the old market.

Wouldn't worry much about being insulted lol there was a fairly hefty man in the Mart here and the auctioneer was telling everyone to pull in and let the wide load past
Well, I have bought a lot of store sheep in bakewell, quite like the bloke. Rather a straight talking honest auctioneer than one full of insincere bulls**t.

No idea about the market or auctioneer in question but having a bit of banter is one thing, not sure I'd be happy if they were mocking the stock that their job is to realise as much as possible for!

can’t be having with the sarcastic barsteward myself. If he put as much effort into selling stock as he does into being a smart arse he wouldn’t miss as many bids and stock would make 10% more.

There’s a way of doing that which doesn’t offend the seller. Telling a seller “well I think they’ve made a good price anyway” when the seller has just pointed out that he dropped the hammer while there was a man frantically bidding at him to go on again, is also another way he endears himself.

get on very well with most auctioneers, they will quite happily say, that l stand fully behind our stock, any problem is sorted, and it is.
but there are some, that think their word is gospel, and no-one should dare criticise them, most certainly not in the packed ring !

There was a sale up here last year a dealer had beasts out of Orkney for sale, anyway at the sale only half appeared at the ring in his turn , eventually the useless f###ers found the other half and they were put through at end of sale , making over £50 a head less, the dealer said no, keep them till next week,
Any way the next week the dealer wasn't there himself and was watching the sale on the tinternet, the cattle from the previous week appeared at ring and the dealer heard the auctioneer say over the mic " is this that $hite from Orkney?"
Needless to say when the dealer saw the said auctioneer he was given a gripping up.

There's nothing wrong with a healthy dose of offense but clearly you have to be not only good at your job but also charming to get away with it.
