Yeh I never understand being shocked or struggling to pay the tax bill, it happens every year at the same time and you must have generated x times the tax in profit to be paying the tax in the first place. We are looking out for some more cows though too so the more the merrier!
You can make a very large profit & still not have any spare cash if you’re paying back large borrowings. But like you say its not exactly a surprise cost you didn’t know was coming.

I saw a nice tidy 8 point abreast for sale on Facebook, wasn't very old. Bet that would go in for a fraction of 150k ;).

Is the outlook really that bad anyway or is it just not as good as 18 months ago, lets face it that was never going to continue. I have heard of a couple of herds within 30 miles of here selling in the last month but both are down to EA rules and them not wanting to invest rather than milk price. Best time to invest is when no one else is.
when we restarted milking in 07, parlour, tank, and fitting, £5,000. Simple 8 standing step up abreast parlour.

milk price went up, h/bone went back in, that didn't cost a fortune either, all 2nd hand bits.

but infrastructure was there, so that wasn't needed.

Same with sheds etc
Local shed erector and groundworker said January you can usually get booked up for the year, this year nothing at all.
Local precast concrete panel company said they can't add anything to the order book until autumn/winter as they're fully booked until then, so I've had to order from further afield.

I take it your going to fill with a loader?
Yeah. I've tracked down an 8t bin with chute on the bottom for £500 so can just use handler bucket.

I reckon it'll cut my blend bill from £4,000 to £2500 a month and increase milk yields by targeting feeding better.

Just wish it was done 6 months ago as promised, having to take matters in my own hands and do it myself as per usual.

is there much difference on price per tone on cake between 8T and 20T taking bigger loads
