Could have had a couple of Ford Capri’s, or half a Ferrari Dino. Average house price about 9K.

Probably many many £££’s if you’d invested it in the U.K./US stock market and left it there

Farmland about £1200 per hectare, so say 3 hectares. Today say £ 24500 per hectare.so land would have been a great investment. Your £4000 would now be worth £73500. Edited to change original from acres to hectares see #poorbuthappy post no. 19

Accountant always says you can make land look a good investment or otherwise by choosing carefully when it was bought and sold.
A Ford 4600 was around 4k in 1975/6, a couple of years later you could sell them for what you'd paid because there was a waiting list and Q cabs/rampant inflation had pushed prices on.
