If you can find the time to post 12,900 messages on this forum then I'm sure that you can find the time to figure out SFI.Pretty much says it all as to who these idiotic schemes are designed for doesn't it!

Agreed, but that is the beauty of this scheme. It's a three year commitment and even then you have substantial flexibility to change things each year. We haven't created anything new that will be permanent. The test is what you think of the scheme in 5-10 years when the funds have run out but the habitat created has to continue.
If I had 1000 acres I'd be going all in but wouldn't be creating a lot of permanent areas of anything non-crop.
I can see all my little patch of the country from the office window and I want to remain fully in control of the view.
@ajcc
So you might ask what the hell is the point other than to divert public money to those that need it the least, isn't that the Tory way these days.Agreed, but that is the beauty of this scheme. If the scheme doesn't suit you then don't apply.Oh I think we've all got SFI & it's intentions figured out.
So is it a case of “I’m alright Jack”?If the scheme doesn't suit you then don't apply.
I accept that the options look better for arable farmers than livestock farmers. I can also see that it's not good news for those who rent or contract land on short term agreements and have to compete against the gross margins offered by AHL2 or NUM3.
The options are primary designed for owners who do not need to make a living from farming but own large estates, the limited pot of money is being redistributed from the smaller hard working farmers to those least deserving with little long term benefit to the taxpayers, you could say the Tories are robbing the poor to feather the nest of those well off, guess nothing changes. If the scheme doesn't suit you then don't apply.

Errr.... no. That's not what I said or what I think. So is it a case of “I’m alright Jack”?
Hmm.... I'm not sure that my neighbours who farm for a living would agree with your conclusions, but we are all entitled to our opinions. The options are primary designed for owners who do not need to make a living from farming but own large estates, the limited pot of money is being redistributed from the smaller hard working farmers to those least deserving with little long term benefit to the taxpayers, you could say the Tories are robbing the poor to feather the nest of those well off, guess nothing changes.
you believe they aren't permanent, Natural England may have other views!Agreed, but that is the beauty of this scheme. It's a three year commitment and even then you have substantial flexibility to change things each year. We haven't created anything new that will be permanent.
Must be nice having a day job that pays enough to own a farmHmm.... I'm not sure that my neighbours who farm for a living would agree with your conclusions, but we are all entitled to our opinions.
Now, I had better return to my day job to ensure that I can pay the taxes which fund these schemes. In one pocket... out of the other...
Not if ive got a plough ( I have)you believe they aren't permanent, Natural England may have other views!
I think this simple message spread around enough, especially on social media would kick up a right storm.I’m waiting to hear that Janet will receive a ‘Gong’ for her achievement in fecking up English farming and want to know if she will hand it back when the public realise they pay taxes to feed birds and suffer higher food prices at the same time?
Just question you on the livestock/arable situation. Ive got both with temporary grass on the livestock side, and SFI works far better there than my arableIf the scheme doesn't suit you then don't apply.

Then she ll take early retirement, to prove she s the intelegent oneI think this simple message spread around enough, especially on social media would kick up a right storm.
Pick your options and rotate.. low input grass concerns me for risk of becoming “habitat” but I’ve no such concerns for rotated nectar pollen or birdseedYour auctioneer or agent?
Find me an agent / RPA high-up who can guarantee that land put into options will not become 'habitat' or have its status changed from mixed use farmland and we'll give it a go.
Until then it's our home and I would rather sign away my pension than devalue the biggest asset in the family in exchange for a handful of silver pieces.
I found the opposite. I have a bit of permanent pasture (no temporary grass though). I struggled to come up with suitable options for the grass. Low inputs doesn't pay a great deal and reduces productivity. Some grass options seem to pay less for the same thing e.g. (from memory) grassland field corners = 333 per hect, arable field corners = 590. Surely it has the same benefit to wildlife so why doesn't it pay the same?Just question you on the livestock/arable situation. Neighbour all arable, and cant see anything till backend to replace rape, As you say mostly rented (long/short)
There can be no other western industry where 18% don’t have email, even most Kenyans have email.local agricultural supplier was telling me, that to buy fertliser now you need a photo ID, and he was asking his customers to email him one, anyway he said 18% of his customers did not have email.
