Should you buy a new tractor?

I had a new Tedder 2 years ago that I used for about a week in the drought. Then last year it blew a mid section UJ and smashed the machine to pieces. Chandlers said it was 3 months out of warranty so they weren’t touching it. Had done probably 50 hours max. They also didn’t stock the parts, not even tines during hay season. I 700 miles over 3 days picking parts from other depots. I then got a huge bill from chandlers and a request not to talk to the parts department like I did. I think it’s madness that they can’t stock parts for a machine they have sold. They also said there’s never been an issue with that machine before. I then found out this winter from a chandlers fitter that they blow up for fun and they’ve had loads of it. JD on the other had are polar opposite, needed an intercooler hose and it was overnighted from Germany at no extra cost, at the depot by 8am.
Pyketts are the only AGCO I will now entertain, as you said - class outfit.
You sound well off for machinery for a new entrant young shepard.

What do you expect 130k tractors to drop to? 100k? Will wages go down at the factories and depots too? Energy, infrastructure, R&D, taxes, shipping, raw materials and components?
When you see an exact same model of tractor go from £75000 to £120,000 in six years do you think that is a justified increase or someone trying to bend you over? I can live with inflation so let’s say 90-95k but 120 is not a true and needed increase. Same thing happened to machines as well

Not for me to say if it’s justified or not, i do believe 130k for a 150hp tractor is expensive but i priced a 2500 tanker in 2019 and it was £12500. Today it’s £22000.
That’s a 75% increase in what is a fairly simple machine free from complexity.

If I were buying a tractor in today's market, I would be playing every dealer off each other. I'd ring them all, regardless of territory. I wouldn't be laser-focused on JD either, Why not a Same/Kubota etc?

I would also be pricing up an absolute poverty spec machine, then asking myself, how long it would take me to earn the 4k say for electric spools over manual for example.

It takes a lot of earning!

Good luck to you though.

PS. Also, ring the trade yourself and try and get every penny you can for the used tractor.

PPS: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS INTEREST FREE!!!

And that is exactly my point if it was 15k it would be a reasonable price increase 22 is not

No competition these days its all sewn up cant sell outside your area same price no negotiation

I'm fascinated that you can justify 150hp guidance front links etc and do 750hrs pa on a sheep farm. Otherwise your logic seems reasonable and if you aren't overstretching yourself then go ahead.
I thought that.. can understand getting something new but pretty basic

why spend a small fortune on every extra

If you have the money and can afford it buy what you want. Higher spec the better if you’re driving and looking after it yourself. Why not. I never thought a fancy tractor with all the toys was necessary but once you’ve done a 10-12 hour day in one you wouldn’t want to go back to basic spec!
