Yep its not cheap these daysIts definitely a big bonus.
Should’ve bought them in the back endYou should have bought them !
Subsidy has been decoupled from production since Single payment started, about 20 years ago, most carried on producing though cos at the end of the day we are farmers, the SFI options we have done won't make any odds to production and I shall carry on with the cows and sheep, personally I think it won't be the payment system that finishes our farming here it will be the EA and environmental regulations, we are not doing anything wrong but I think there are new regs coming we just won't be able to afford and the same goes for other farmers around here I talk to, I don't know any grassland farmer who is drastically cutting production in favour of SFI, they seem to be just fitting what they can round their farming. There are some that do think it is a moral conundrum. They feel it is their moral duty to grow food. It isnt. Surely a customer is a customer and you sell to those that pay the best?! As and when it all end/changes you just go back to selling to someone else. Are you telling me if a fresh man came in to the store ring upsetting the regulars and outbidding them for your stores for a few sales you would feel duty bound to go to the regulars and offer yours privately because its all likely to end in tears for the new man after a while? You'd take the uplift in prices while he was there and go back to the regulars buying them when he's gone. The fact it's the government paying me rather than a grain merchant offering me bugger all for wheat makes little odds.
When i was in the office lad on the desk said the average was hovering either side of £4. Sqq was actually less than the overall average but some of them smalls were prity average. Was some tremendous 50-70kg lambs in and to think once over you could hardly give them away.Fuk they must be near £4 they look dear
