Store cattle still good trade on Tuesday, I was pleased with what I sold anyway, breeding cattle I thought very dear.

OTM CATTLE
35 OTM Cattle averaged 197.6p/kilo and £1343.33 per head

Stock Bulls sold to 193.5p and £2176.88 for an Angus Bull from ABP Wilsons, West Highwood, Langleydale, and £1964.78 and 195.5p for a Limousin from TB Walton, Linburn Hall, South Bedburn.
COWS
Top price per kilo was 289.5p for a 34 months old British Blue from JD Featherstone, Ireshopeburn.

Top price per head was a Limousin cow at £1907.33 from JJ&M Pickering & Son, Woolpitts


BREEDING CATTLE
Limousin Heifers & Calves sold from £3600, £3150, £3000 from IM Maughan, New Hall Farm, Hamsterley.

Limousin Cows & Calves sold to £2350 and £1800 from GT&E Atkinson, Wether Hill Farm, Winston.

FEEDING BULLS & STORE CATTLE
35 Feeding Bulls & 200 Store Cattle were presented to a keen ringside of buyers, resulting in a marvellous trade from start to finish, over and above other local centres.

Bulls averaged £1513.94
Steers averaged £1338.62
Heifers averaged £1217.35

Top price of the day was a Limousin Bull at £2120 from S&C Gill, Bowes Cross Farm, Boldron.
Top price Steer was a Limousin at £1935 from MJ&SM Wallace, Lane Head Farm, Middleton in Teesdale.
Top price Heifer was a Limousin at £1735 from JE&E Dobson & Son, White Kirkley,

Found out why we are getting fit ewes lambing in with bugger all milk…off the scale on the schmallenburg blood test 🤦‍♂️

Only had one deformed lamb though, just seems to be presenting itself with lack of milk. Also explains our poor scan according to the vet.
it’s always something with sheep, just something different every year!!

That’s a new one, and a bugger to deal with. :( Does their milk generally come up after a few days, or just enough to rear one?

The good news is that, having Schmallenburg sweep through the country, everything should now be immune again for a few years. :)

We’ve probably had 20 like it, lamb in fine, strong lambs from good condition ewes. They have milk initially then it disappears after the initial feeds. It sometimes comes back a bit, enough to rear one lamb, but not to normal levels.
