They didn't!
We voted out.
They campaigned to remain, why is this so hard for you to understand?

Because of the simple fact that the vote was advisory, the tories chose to act upon it.
you should vote for them for life out of pure gratitude 👍

and I am sure that is just what will happen, assuming you are correct and the walking away is as popular as you maintain 👍

It may have been legally advisory but at no point did either remain or leave lead the people to believe they wouldn't carry out their wishes. The problem was leave won and neither side had a clue what to do as that was the wrong answer.

The Conservative Party is a completely busted flush as far as I’m concerned. I’m a natural Conservative but they the Conservatives are no longer reliable friends. On every single important matter they say one thing but do something else.
On everything from immigration, to gender recognition, to taxation, to public services, to corporate greed and monopolisation, consumer protection etc etc they say what they think their grass roots want to hear then carry on with a woke socialist champagne ecologist agenda that Labour would be proud of. It’s so blatant now that it’s a joke.
Immigration : not a hope of getting it under control.
Taxation and public spending : out of control.
Affordability of homes and rents : out of control.
Energy policy : a complete mess.
Foreign policy : talking like we’ve still an empire when I doubt we could even defend our own country if it came to it.
Net zero : offshoring all primary production including food production to cook the books.

I’m not sure exactly why it is, but Mr Sunak and his coterie seem entirely incapable of taking any real action to address any of the above, to defend ordinary taxpayers and consumers, ordinary poll tax payers and workers.
At a local level they are trumpeting legislation that’s coming to allow me to divert a footpath round instead of through the middle of my farmyard. But it’ll cost me £3125 to pay for the council admin and then I have to pay for any gates etc on top. And still, which was always the risk, if somebody objects, despite the obvious benefits to public safety, I lose my entire £3125 for nothing. So tell me what’s changed here? Tell me what the Conservatives have done for us? I’ll tell you. They’ve done nothing. Nothing at all for ordinary private property owners, taxpayers, workers. Everything is still in favour of the objector with no skin in the game, the agitator, the troublemaker, the entitled , the criminal and the delinquent.
Rant over.
These aren't Conservatives - they're swindlers in cahoots with the Banks, the FOS, the BoE & the BBRS. They're offshoring Briton's assets.

not especially… do you think Macrons pension reforms were popular ; or necessary ?

I don't know enough or care enough to find out the details.
If you do unpopular things you will not be in power for long.
If people think they are necessary then they are popular.
The two things are not mutually exclusive, so your your question is a false choice

So, do we start baselessly speculating now, or do we wait until he's forced to resign?

I'm going to open with one idea, they could squeeze an infinitely large number of prime ministers in before the election, just for increasingly short periods of time. Zenos paradox and all that.

I know that sounds dumb, but I've already heard of David Cameron making a come back, and I feel that's an even stupider idea.
To be perfectly honest even a sheep seems to be of higher intellect than the current PM and previous 7 PM's!!!

Indeed. The £10 million donation from the bloke who is big in AI and is developing an AI model to diagnose patients and has won more than £400 million of NHS and prison contracts in the last 8 years tells me everything I need to know about the top of the Conservative Party.
It would help if somebody would actually answer the phone at our GP surgery and if they had basic competence. The last thing we or the elderly, confused or seriously ill need is a chat with an AI bot online. Yet I can see it coming at us at high speed in Rishi and his pals brave new high tech world. Billions will be spent. But will things get any better? I’ll believe it when I see it but I have serious doubts.

yep, up to them what they done with the result, same as the first ec ref
Cameron could have just said to his mates oh dear folk don't seem best chuffed with the eu but sod them lets ignore it and go down the pub,

oh, my mistake, I wasn’t following that closely but I thought Johnson, Gove, Cash etc were Tories🤷‍♂️
They need us more than we need them, Easiest deal in history… all from the Tories, no?
The Conservatives were the Government, they led the remain campaign, including sending leaflets to everyone in the country trying to persuade them to vote remain.
