5 a day and we are motoring hereThat’s a fair rate. I reckon we’re motoring when we have 40 ewes lamb a day.
How are they milking? Mine came in late and although in good order and lambs are a good size, they are not as milky as I would like.View attachment 1171857
Aberfield x Cheviot shearling, in for 2. Lambing inside is easy when you just sit on a gate watching them get on with it.
I must admit I do like doing the night shift on my own. Everything nice and quiet after a manic day of being asked questions by everyone, the phone constantly ringing or pinging.
How offensive.@unlacedgecko I didn’t know you moved bales ?
People look at you funny because you wear shorts, in fife, in winter & don't appear to be related to your partner or addicted to smack. How offensive.
People locally look at me funny because I insist on strapping every bale I put in the flat bed here.
Well so far, the first one to lamb has earnt a cull tag by having bugger all milk but being fat herself, and the other 4 so far are milking well with twins on. Just had one lamb, second was coming head first. Quick rearrange and she’s got 2 cracking lambs on her now. Plenty of milk. So I’m hoping the first one was just a general dick and the rest are the norm. Got 3 Cheviot mules not just milking how they should be. But they are just lean enough for my liking. The weather really has made a balls of my ewes this time. Good Haylage, Mollasses, SF carrots and just over a lb of 18% nuts a day and there are still too many of them that aren’t like house sides. How are they milking? Mine came in late and although in good order and lambs are a good size, they are not as milky as I would like.
All this getting up checking cows through the night why don't you just take the bull out of a nightI came in about 8 last night had a look around at 10.30 back up at 2.30 to attend to some cows that had calved and to calve I was back in at 5 went back to bed till 7
I haven’t even started lambing yet. You sound like you are having a fast lambing that’s usually a good lambing here
That's what I do with the rams. Seems to work wellAll this getting up checking cows through the night why don't you just take the bull out of a night
Is it a cullable offence lambing in the night? That's what I do with the rams. Seems to work well
Not when you see a Shetland running up the hill with 2 full lambs close behind as you go out.Is it a cullable offence lambing in the night?
What if it's not your hill? Not when you see a Shetland running up the hill with 2 full lambs close behind as you go out.
Rearing 2 lambs with zero feed cost. Very efficient. What if it's not your hill?
Only if you get the lambs back to sellRearing 2 lambs with zero feed cost. Very efficient.
It's the future of lamb production.
