Fowrass concertina sheep hurdle

Just on with thinking of making something similar for myself.

I've made the rappa type yard and hurdles but I don't think its as versatile as this type.

Thinking wide and narrow race as the above but with integrated infloor weigh scales and draft gate at the front of the narrow race. Maybe locking head yoke also.

Those MW 8ft hurdles look handy enough. could make your own joiners to make them concertina.

What weight will they be. just wondering how much stuff you could get in before brakes are required?
I have a lot of wet fields with no hard standing so I like the fact that handling pens have a floor so you are not working with sheep in a pen that turns into a mud bath, that's what let's down the rappa and similar pens down. This one has expanded steel but checker plate would work too.

I had a Glendale which was great but it's a heavy bugger and need the tractor to move in the winter and it was either set up wide or narrow, not both and it was also was very long so getting in some gates wasn't that easy.

I put 12 of the gates on and probably over 750kg but only ever on back roads. The trailer without gates is definitely under. Not sure you could make the hydraulic lift and lower with brakes.

I am still trying to figure out how to get the weigh crate incorporated without too much hassle. Just make a pen out the back at the moment but would be better if I could get it on the trailer somehow.

You could make a ramp and do away with the raise and lower function but it makes loading and unloading sheep and gates so much easier.

It's a Border Software weigh crate I have which is also brilliant. Lightweight as the weigh cells are on the top instead of heavy load cells underneath and the top is totally open for tagging or checking the lambs back cover without hands getting rattled against any mechanisms over the top.

Thats what I'm looking at now. Braked and lowered could be a struggle.
Running sheep up the ramp could slow could slow the job down a bit although Glendale and Modulamb seem to stick with the concept.

Ive already got the weighbars from Allied Weighing as I was going to make a weigh crate.

I like the expanded mesh floor as it keep things a bit cleaner and more grip than chequer plate I think. And probaly keep the weight down also.

The ally hurdles I made for my rappa type are at the end of there life now really. To replace with proper Rappa hurdles I'm looking at over £2k.

I could go a long way to making this type for that money.

Have you looked at Modulamb? That would be my choice if I had the need.

Edit - or Fowrass have the Rhino.

I looked at the Rhino and Modulamb but both have ramps and although they both looked good, I try and avoid ramps where possible, it's slows sheep filling a pen and they are a bugger for carrying gates up and down.

Just a nod to this firm. They've listened to the customer and modified their design. I may now get a few more.
