Machinery price discussion .

Yes I used them as there a major player and would leave a massive hole in the HD dealer network if they said nope we’re not gonna sell them anymore. As for the balance sheet it would look even better if they actually advertised everything they have kicking about at various depots. From what I’ve seen the website only shows a small selection of what they actually have for sale.
They are terrible at selling their used equipment. Most of the used stuff at Ripon isn’t even on website. If I’ve ever bought anything used from them I’ve had to find it myself and ask a rep then they try and find it on the system.
They have some good used stuff but their system is bollox. They seem to just push new green metal all the time. Not the company it was 10 years ago.
Started using Paxtons at bit now and find them very good to deal with in every department.
Like RFS used to be.

Yes ripon site is a complete tip. Stuff everywhere and most not advertised, only been there once recently and it surprised me

Had an item on order , spoke to dealer and informed them of wish to trade 2 quality lesser value items . Showed little to no interest so cancelled new item. 2 way road you've got to support each other no point otherwise

So you agreed a deal. Then said you want the dealer to take in 2 other machines/items, as part ex? So then the dealer has to stock those machines and potentially warranty them......and will only realise the profit after both have sold, assuming they need no work and will have no warranty issues...... I am confident that they are glad you cancelled.

Also, don't tell me these two items are "Quality, best you'll see, immaculate, hardly used".....but you want to sell them to the trade.

What's wrong with the website ? A good list of s/h goods, one click on each to get a detailed description, what would you do differently ?

Their is even a link to download the entire stock list.

order was made pre xmas and 'the finer points' to be sorted at a later date . now dealer rep is having his strings pulled to not take in stock but shift what they already have. he is a annoyed as we are. the items in question are less than 5 years old and he sold them to us so he knows the items ..... SALE DUE TO CHANGE IN FARM POLICY i think is the common term

There's nothing wrong with the website at all its to the same model as all other JD Dealers its just that only a small percentage of what they have on stock or coming in is on there, so if someone existing client or wider circle is looking for something how can they know what is available if it isn't on the website.

This is not a dig at ripon the whole industry is guilty of it. A couple of years ago I bought a stock pre registered tractor from another dealer local to me but not he branch I dealt with. The salesman I dealt with didn't know the tractor existed which made him look rather foolish. I only found it by accident as I was picking up parts on the way past and saw it and asked the question. I had to send him a photo as he initially didn't believe me thought it must be sold etc. As the crunch is coming these big dealers who have grown quickly need to get the new procedures and structures in place so this never happens.

Because there’s only about 5% of what they actually have.

Your surely not suggesting this list only represents 5% of their stock ? Their must be around 4- 500 items on this list, they don't have 10,000 machines (items) in stock.

Sometimes sales reps have been known not to add a trade in to the general/Web stock list because they either have a customer in mind already or its a tidy machine of the sort they sell a number of and want the commission for themselves.

Go and have a walk round the ripon yard make a note of every machine thats in there, then compare it to the website…….

multiply that by all the depots..

Its a well known fact that us farmers are sad buggers who will sit surfing dealers yards for kit on an evening as the Mrs has some shite on the telly box and if we don’t know it’s for sale we can’t buy it

So, are you suggesting they list everything on their stock list that is available on the website, as an individual item on the used/new machinery pages ?

It would always be out of date.

Only if you can’t be bothered to update it, they might have considerable less stock if they actually marketed it. I believe Farol have someone dedicated to their eBay site, they wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t worthwhile.

Look at the Barclay businesses, HRN, netherton, Sharmans the family look after trading the s/h book of machinery and the employees look after new sales. That is very telling as those boys know the value of money and how hard earnt it is

Ok so if you were a machinery dealer how would you advertise your stock so people can see what you have for sale?

Absolute rubbish, take a look at HRN's website and tell me that is all there stock on the website

Show me one dealers website where all their stock is on the website and up to date.

What is absolute rubbish? No need to be rude. Who mentioned HRN? I didn't.

I said that plenty of dealers update their websites every day.

Of the top of my head, Dobsons and Pyketts definitely do, and Mccleans in Dorset is updated several times a day. There are plenty more.

To be fair a local dealer to us I know has 2 people now full-time driving round the branches on the the s/h stock appraising, photographing and writing the descriptions, running the stocklist, and then generating the website of the stocklist semi automatically, and that's all they do, to try and keep things up to date and also come across with a common approach in photo's, descriptions and pricing across the branches etc
