Prepare Your Farm for LOLER and PER Inspection

Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER) refer to mandatory inspections of machinery regularly conducted throughout the farming and agricultural industries. They are designed to ensure farming equipment like front-end loaders, harnesses and man cages are safe and suitable to use. These laws attribute responsibility to individuals that own, operate or have control over such machinery.

Whilst there is debate over the application of inspection legislation in the farming industry, the following equipment falls under the category for inspection, either on an annual or bi-annual basis:

Annual
  • Fork-lift trucks, front-end loaders, and attachments
  • Air compressors
  • Trolley jacks, stands, and winches
Bi-annual
  • Harnesses used up trees or on grain silos by workers
  • Man cages for tractors or front-end loaders (including the vehicle to which they attach)
  • Scissor lifts
Only an organisation approved by the HSE can carry out these checks, and this cannot be the owner or supplier of the equipment itself. If you haven’t already, arrange your inspection soon to make sure your agricultural machinery is LOLER and PER compliant!
