You can, but if you ever have the need to grade to one side (bring material back into the track), you will have to switch the angle of the blade. You can only grade "away from the middle" so many times

Well, that depends. Sometimes you want a slope to one side, but generally, I'm looking to grade the track with a roof-like profile.

I resolved the problem: I found the work manager and switched between two works manually which brought up the coverage and totals. then I exported my farm data (all of it) and reset the display and imported the data back in. Now the coverage alerts are back and the coverage is there without...

No I have no boundaries as of yet but ut should bring up that message even if you change fields which it doesn’t. Could it just be a corrupted database?
