Maybe you've got plenty of legumes in the sward.......?
Maybe you're stocking rate is low and you don't need 14t DM/ha?
There's not really a simple one size fits all approach.
If they were taking 4 cuts of silage, aiming for 14 t Dry Matter yield per Ha then they'd be aiming to apply 310 kg N/ha. So if that was going on via Ammonium Nitrate you'd be looking at 1.1 tonnes of AN (34.5%N).........
If they were applying 34 kgN/ha per month then that's pretty much bang on...
Depends if he's talking about kg of N per ha or kg Ammonium Sulphate per ha...?
If he's talkin about 125kg/ha of actual fert, say 27% N & 12% SO3 then thats 34kg N/ha and 15kg SO3/ha.
Perhaps the world population size has passed the point where food can't be produced sustainably and instead it's production at all costs just to feed everyone? The cost of which is just being kicked down the road for future generations to sort out or pay for one way or another.
Imagine...
Not detailed future knowledge, no. Just knew that there was a whole raft of options on the horizon....... CS commitment is long so seemed right to be patient. Was all very much crystal ball territory, you can only do your best with what yoiu know at the time.
Good luck getting out of CS...
The agent's a twit he's constantly trying to 'sell the idea' that options should be picked that don't actually require any thought or change......ie easy money. But because there's f**k all thought gone into the process there aren't any longer term wins/improvements ......... typical box ticking...
Ha. There was a land agent up here going round getting grassland into SW9 and now thats fecked it for all those guys looking at this new range of SFI options.......
Docks, nettles and thistles will be your challenge. If you're looking to blanket spray then your options for chemical are limited as you probably know.
The guys in Debyshire were saying that where they were ploughing prior to drilling the ley this was bringing weed seeds back up which would...
I went down to Derbyshire to see what had been done over the last couple of years with herbal leys and two dairy farms were giving them a go alongside the grass/clover paddocks and they were getting on ok with them. They weren't just as simple to maintain as grass paddocks but they were still...
Lifted this out of the tramline trial discussion on yield:
"Yield results
The average measured yield of the control treatment was 10.86 t/ha, according to weighbridge results.
The Utrisha-N treatment reduced yield by 0.15 t/ha relative to the control, but this difference is small enough that...
What sort of price differences are you seeing or have you seen?
MRI heifer calf gives a choice - sell, fatten or keep as a replacement. Also further down the line there's an option to sell the cow as they make an OK suckler cow.
Bull calves have a decent frame due to the dual purpose breeding...
You say you are responsible for 150K of overdraft, but have also expanded over the last 4/5 years. You need to look at what the cash flow projection for the next five years is (sorry crystal ball territory!) so you can understand how the borrowing may/may not support future profits........ and...
You can go watch or enter the South Yorkshire Hedgelaying Comp. Novice class is very friendly and Jasper on hand to advise.......

It was the North Yorkshire Competition last Saturday.......was a cracking day...
You hit the nail square on the head - the real issue is human population size and related unsustainable production and consumption.
Someone will come back at you though saying that humans have had their reproductive systems altered, via birth control products. These contraceptives have probably...
But if we keep growing we'll create a bigger problem down the line........ more mouths to feed, more waste of every kind, more non renewable resources consumed, until we fall off the cliff. As a species we aint in balance at all.............
From LIG guidance :
What to do
You must minimise the use of nutrient inputs on the grassland entered into LIG1 and LIG2 by applying no more than either:
• 12 tonnes per ha of cattle farmyard manure
• equivalent amounts of available nutrients as fertiliser or in other organic manures as an...
