If they were taking 4 cuts of silage, aiming for 14 t Dry Matter yield per Ha then they'd be aiming to apply 310 kg N/ha. So if that was going on via Ammonium Nitrate you'd be looking at 1.1 tonnes of AN (34.5%N).........Yes but that's still every month for 5 months. So 170kg N/ha total. Which is bang on what I'd put on a wheat crop. Just seemed a lot for grassland to me?!
If they were applying 34 kgN/ha per month then that's pretty much bang on per monthly grazing rotation if they were aiming to get something like 8-12 tonnes DM/ha yield.
