Its the Hebrideans having the Roussin lambs and so far so good. Have had to give one or two a wee pull but some of my hebrideans are on the small side. One was a leg back and the other was a Gimmer that should of went to the Heb ram.
Seriously considering getting another for next year but...
I know!!!
It's going to be 8ft high block walls with no gaps anywhere for horns or heads to get under🤣
Bizarrely they aren't too bad on fences as fences are almost completely alien to them as they live high up on the hill....the Hebrideans however are very much clued up on ways to get under them
I've got 40 Hebrideans and 80 BF ewes.
Not through 50 bags of feed yet and used two hay bales on top that. Have about 100 live lambs on the ground with a more yet to come. Got sick fed up of terminals and f**king about at lambing.
Lambed a relatives yesterday and it ran off and I spent the...
No point asking us tbh.
Go look around you and see what other farms are doing . A good few big sheep farms in Ontario.
I worked on a sheep farm in Ontario. Housing was poly tunnels for lambing. Slatted flooring for fattening lambs. Sheep stayed outside all winter. Alot of farms up that...
just took in a 3 day old lamb. ewes milking fine and ive seen it every day the last three days
no reaction from it if you touch its eyes (as if it was brain damaged) and breathing very heavy (rattling). tongue kind of sticking out.
dont think its watery mouth, any ideas?
Really happy with the lambs being churned out by the Heb x Roussins. Had f**k all feed too this year and it's been a harsh winter. Will be interesting to see how they grow now though but will keep a hold of them into next year and hopefully the price is decent. Will end up keeping some of...
Worst lambing weather in a long time. Rain rain rain and we're having high winds too
Sheep are lambing ok and the lambs are getting through it alright. Lost a couple of half twins after a few days old but being hill sheep, probably shouldnt of been tupped in the first place and a real lack...
That my worry too long term. This will be the first time these sheep have ever been fed and given their age it's probably helped them. Alot of these old ewes won't see another breeding year.
First year these sheep have ever been scanned and they're running about 145%. They weaned less than...
Glad it's not just us then.
Thankfully the BF are that wild and hefted to the top they don't go raiding but maybe the bought in ones might. If they do I'll just move them on but hopefully their first crop of lambs will stick with the hefted ones. It's a no lose situation really..
I'm...
f**k them
Theres issues with townships not maintaining fences though and it's part of the reason the raiders are as bad as they are.
People owning crofts but without livestock aren't giving a f**k but like a good moan on Facebook when sheep enter their gardens/crofts .
It still won't solve it tbh. The common is right slap bang in the centre of the Island. Animals can get onto it from any direction at any point and head out. Theres one guy who has sheep roaming everywhere and they are the main problem. If I cleared it tomorrow, something could get back...
Will just have to bring them in earlier next year....like September 🤣. Theres that much shite around even if i cleared the hill 2/3 times something would still make it out and I'll still be stressed about it. Hopefully if I get the bulk in by the middle of October I'll be alright.
I'm going...
Had a quick count tonight. Only the 70 odd mongrel lambs out of my expected 90😭😭😭. Convinced there was more than one ram at work though.
It's a massive kick in the balls, should of been. Looking at easily 40 ewe lambs which is half my stock to replenish the heft and get a good boost in...
Bit of a blow tomorrow
Atleast it's not too cold and the worst is during the day
Funny how normally you'd be happy for it to pee down all night and be dry during the day. When it's lambing it's the complete opposite!
