years ago, we bought a Charolais bull, put a cow with him, he jumped, and fell over backwards, that was the one and only calf from that bull. Let my uncle have a fr bull to run with his hfrs, checked with his chap, bull ok ? yes, served a couple, came off 1 a bit awkward, only 2 I/c, father-in-law bought a bunch of bulling hfrs, hired aa bull, nothing +ve. We have been caught out, simply to many coming on at once, and tiring himself out, leaving a big gap in calving. So, answer, always check, and always have a back up, we pd some at 32 days into service, that can pick up a problem, or satisfy your self !

We always ran 2 bulls to 120 cows
I would successfully AI about 20 before the bulls went in , bulls had 2 and a bit cycles and seemed to cope

We run our commercial cows in groups of around 50 every year. Bulls are watched closely and heats noted to see if many cows come back into season. If we see anything we don't like, we tend to act pretty quickly. We're lucky that we always have bulls we can substitute in though if we do have a problem.
This is one of the best PD results we've had. 1 bull: 53 cows.

Buey buey ye were right the other day when ye said aboot getting tighter the older ye get!! ?. The bull ye have noo wid likely handle them all next year fine. Best get another een as it's no easy getting one when ye need een at short notice!. 50 coos on a field up here wae a damp summer widna be great. Saying that though another close neighbour (not mentioning names) ran 52 wae an aged Angus and had 1 no in calf. But he did say it wasn't easy on the ground.

We just need someone from Suffolk or Northumberland or Aboyne to reply to that. :) And there was me thinking sadly that dialects are dying out.

The bull in question is in his prime, he’s got 3 successful seasons of bulling 30 cows in 3 months under his belt now.
Also, part of the theory on this is that instead of making my fields smaller for a more efficient grazing pattern, I could just make the mobs bigger...

Speak properly @davieogrutha

Another close neighbour ran an Angus with only 20 coo’s and had one IN calf. Need to watch closely

Just like yourself @Orkneyboy
