I was sort of similarly lucky as had the main pump that uses a diverter for power steering pump split, if it hadn't this might have butchered the timing gears and writ the engine off. A neighbour had a little used Siromer 204 4X4 for three years and with umpteen things failing couldn't keep up with it constantly going wrong and started to use it for spare parts for another one he had and was left standing out for eight years. I wanted a small tractor to pull 200 plus trees out from thinning my wood, I thought how bad could it be, well it was bad and still is as still keep getting things go wrong, just to get it running spent £2,000 on parts and three months work when a new one was only £4,000 back then, because of terrible build quality I modified as a waded through and that takes time, I had just got it running ok and first run on the road, now gears go from very slow to very fast in only six steps and with only 20 odd HP and the very high top gear like a white knuckle job I had just about got it flat out in a half mile when bang and just like a plain thats been shot down with smoke trailing out and I was well covered in oil, soon found out it was a common fault as with a high oil flow the quick fit coupling fails between pump and valve chest and locks off the oil flow, the pump had split and then found the little drive coupling was badly worn with only a few hours use it had. Some was caused by the thick gasket being crushed as bolts not evenly taking the strain putting it out of line and with a very light duty type of drive coupling this had fretted and worn, The repair wasn't easy, however pump was only £120 I think so little but trying to get the odd type of differing sized metric hydraulic fittings to do away with the quick fit fitting was difficult and in the end just welded standard fittings to the odd ball Chines ones, and the drive coupling was built up with work hardening weld and instead of a thick gasket a thin paper one was used. That was very lucky then
