Hi, I'm hoping someone on here can help me.

I'm not a farmer I'm a geophysicist thats trying to design some new gear.

I'm trying to track down some spiked closing wheels but I can't find any place in the UK to buy them. This is probably either because thats not what they are called or I'm just looking in the wrong places.

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction of where I can buy them.

Thanks

Sam

How 'spiked' do you want them?

Something like this?

something like either of these would be excellent. These are both from suppliers in America.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Ideally I'm looking to buy some of the discs ready made rather than make them myself.

I've tried finding the spiked or star shape discs at various agricultural and plant suppliers but I keep coming up short. I find lots of smooth discs but not the spikes or stars.

Is this a case of having to bite the bullet and import them because its just not something that gets sold in this country?

The spiked wheels are not really sold in the UK, you'll probably have to import them. They call them spading wheels in the US. If you give us a bit more clue as to what you want to do with them we might be able to steer you in the right direction.

I'm building a rolling earth resistance array. The basic principle is that the spikes will need to be able to dig slightly in to the ground in order to pass an electrical current through it.

I'm ideally looking for something at least 12 inches in diameter. It would be nice and easy to buy some that are ready made as the rest of the rig will be completely custom built and is going to require a lot of work.

reinventing the wheel?
have a look at this:
http://www.geophilus.de/geophilus-messsystem.html

done it with a working unit over 10 years ago. Even that farmers saved 25+% of N each year they where not willing to pay money for doing it.
so done it, got the T-shirt and moth-bowled the unit.
Wish you more Success than we had.
