Anyone know if it is permissible to plant a wild bird crop like millet, or even pheasant cover now, on land declared as fallow on BPS form?
TIA.

Yes, you can. I have planted a pollen & nectar mix on EFA fallows this year.

2016 guidance p 55:

Wild-bird seed mixes should be an area with a balanced combination of small-seed bearing crops,
for example Barley, Triticale, Kale, Quinoa, Linseed, Millet, Mustard, Fodder radish, Sunflower. This
will benefit over-wintering birds.
Pollen sources and nectar sources should be in an area with a mixture of nectar-rich plants, for
example Red clover, Alsike clover, Bird’s foot trefoil, Sainfoin, Musk mallow or Common knapweed.
This will benefit nectar feeding insects like butterflies and bumble bees.

Have to say that I dont know what the point would be doing it now, especially if you are planning on working the land after the fallow period ends as thats a very small window. My pollen mix is really starting to grow now and its got a lot of clovers in it so hopefully adding some fibre and nutrients.

Thanks Static,
It is a 1.5ha field with 0.6ha of waterlogging problems, mate has some pheasants not far away, and I have had better results with early June planted millet/sunflower and similar, than May planted i the past, was minded to perhaps drill something that will naturally re-generate next year and leave it in fallow again.
